Summary

'I hope my book will showcase the importance of being open in a shut off world, the need to talk about the good days as well as the bad days, so we can all start to have open and honest conversations about how we really are, not how we think we should be.' (Frankie Bridge)

This book will help you to open up, be more open-minded, and have more open conversations.

In Open, Frankie Bridge opens up about her ongoing journey from breakdown to breakthroughs and through self-loathing, self-acceptance and self-love. Part narrative exploration, part practical guide, this book will help you to understand the importance of talking and helping each other in an imperfect world. It will also feature practical guidance and advice from the psychologist and psychiatrist who pulled her back from the brink along with their notes and conversations throughout her recovery. By opening up about her battles, Frankie wants to help a generation of people to be more open about their mental health. Speak out. Ask for help. And be helped.

It's a very simple four-letter word, but one of the hardest words to put into practice, this book is about how to be open.

It’s not just me

I’ve struggled with episodes of anxiety, depression, PTSD,panic attacks and mild OCD throughout my life. I’ve noticed it more in recent years and major/traumatic events and I am struggling currently. Listening to Frankies story makes me reflect and look back and I realise I also think I have these illnesses/tendency’s built in from a young ages, but they become overwhelming and crippling when major life events have happened that are out of my control. I am on the waiting list for CBT and counselling (6 month wait) but listening and taking on board the advice from Frankie and the experts advice has helped me get up out of bed today and understand myself a little bit better knowledge is power! I also am re thinking trying different medications after not getting on well with one type I’ve built my own anxiety around taking them but you’ve made me realise not one size fits all. Thank you for sharing your story Frankie

Highly recommended

Even though I subscribe to audible I often struggle to finish a book and will quite easily quit half through. I can honestly say this was one of the first books I have ever listened to from beginning to end and once I started listening I didn't want to stop. It sounds wrong to say I enjoyed this book given the subject and the many heartbreaking stories it contains but I really did enjoy listening to it and would recommend it to anyone. I fortunately have many good days rather than bad and wouldn't say I am somoene that struggles with an illness. I picked this up to get a better understanding of people that do suffer. This book has given me exactly that. I had no idea who Frankie was or that she was a celebrity and had forged a succesful career as a pop star. I purely selected this with my monthly credit to give it a go and it's one of the best decisions I ever made :)

I will pick up a paper copy asap as I really want to read/listen to it again.

Good luck with the book Frankie, I wish you every success with it.

Heartbreaking and Heartwarming

Frankie you are a legend for being so open about your continual mental health journey.
I certainly need to take a leaf or two from your book and become open about my own battles!

Moving

An important book to listen/read, it gave me a better understanding into mental illnesses and the use of medication and therapy. Of course everyone is different but I feel that by Frankie opening up about her experiences it will help others to reassess their lives and hopefully get help or be less critical of themselves. The ever evolving world brings us new mental health challenges and it is how we adapt and cope with them that is important.

My Best EVER read/listen

I have read many books about mental illness with a view to self help & to help others. This is the only one that I would recommend because it is written from The heart.

Thank you Frankie for this extraordinary book it must have taken great courage and left you exhausted. However In My view it is an important book to help, not only people with mental health problems, but also family friends and loved ones who just dont know how to help.

For me it was important to 'listen' to this rather than 'read' it as it brought a connection with the author who also happens to have a very soothing listenable voice.

Thank you

The book that could save you

I have never listened/read a book where I have related so much, so instantly before. The voice notes from the professionals also help understand how our minds work and why some situations form the thinking patterns we continue to love with. I think it has been amazing to be able to understand much more about mental illness through frankie a bravery to share and I would recommend this book to anyone who has ever felt like they have succeeded With mental illness or know someone who has. I will be sharing this with friends and family
