Summary

From the legendary New York Times best-selling author of Only a Kiss and Only a Promise comes the final book in the rapturous Survivor's Club series - as the future of one man lies within the heart of a lost but never-forgotten love....

For the first time since the death of his wife, the Duke of Stanbrook is considering remarrying and finally embracing happiness for himself. With that thought comes the treasured image of a woman he met briefly a year ago and never saw again.

Dora Debbins relinquished all hope to marry when a family scandal left her in charge of her younger sister. Earning a modest living as a music teacher, she's left with only an unfulfilled dream. Then, one afternoon, an unexpected visitor makes it come true.

For both George and Dora, that brief first encounter was as fleeting as it was unforgettable. Now is the time for a second chance. And while even true love comes with a risk, who are two dreamers to argue with destiny?

The last of the Surviors

Would you consider the audio edition of Only Beloved to be better than the print version?

I have enjoyed all the stories about the survivors, some more than others and was happy to read the last about the Duke. I was a bit confused as from the other books, I was lead to believed that the Duke loved his wife. Then we find out he had never been her husband in the true sense, however it was a good story and a happy ending.

Would you be willing to try another book from Mary Balogh? Why or why not?

Yes, but I do find that she is a "Hit and Miss type of authoress.

What does Rosalyn Landor bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Yes I enjoyed her narrative style.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

It would be hard to make a film about one book as they are all interlinked, to make one about all the books would mean short-changing the stories.

Any additional comments?

Worth reading all books, though not all are as good as some.

Great ending to a fabulous series.

I have loved this entire series and I was really looking forward to George's book. As usual, Mary Balogh did not disappoint. Rosalyn Landor is a master narrator, she is always good.

Well paced story

It is nice to have a story that starts with a marriage, since we all know that's where it is going. The twist, unfortunately, is one we have seen before in her other books and is a bit predictable. That said, this was a lovely end to the survivor series.

Not worth the time, effort or money

Boring story & the female lead is too gullible to tolerate. I couldn't even finish it. So I'm returning it.

Loved this Book!!

I love this narrator as I have heard her perform before! I loved the story because throughout reading the other books in the series I always wondered about George. :)

Repetition, Introspection and Description

Not a lot of action.

Each main character spent ages in angst over how their perfect wedding day was ruined but still perfect and even though it was perfect it was still the worst day ever.

Most of the book is spent explaining the main couple's feelings and their descriptions of the various settings, clothing, furniture, flowers, musical instruments, etc. So each sceen had to be told from each characters point of view. And again everything is perfect except it is just not perfect.

The narrator was very good.

I suggest you only read/listen to this novel only if you are a big fan of the Survivors Series and want to read a post script of those previous stories.

Again, so impressed with this excellent writer

What a delight to listen to this enormously entertaining story about a lonely duke and a solitary spinster who meet all challenges head on as they move toward their own HEA. This is book 7 of The Survivors Club and although I have not read the previous books (unusual for me) I experienced no difficulties following the story when previous characters appeared. I now plan to begin at book 1 and anticipate enjoying each ensuing story. In addition, kudos to Rosalyn Landor, the superior narrator of this book.

Enjoyable series

This is been a well written and enjoyable series. I listened to them first as they came out from my local library and then was happy to see they are all in the Romance Package for now and have listened through once again, this time one right after the other and it was just as good as the first time. I highly recommend. I’ve smiled, laughed and cried my way through and now can move on to my other books piling up in my library : D

Wonderful

It is so refreshing to have a story about mature lovers. I can so identify with Dora and her expectation to never marry. I married at 50. Totally unexpected, like Dora, never imagined I would ever marry. But I did...to the shock of my friends and family. 12 years later...still happy and in love. It's never too late! Perfect narration by Rosalyn Landor. Lovely story and perfect ending to the series...especially the epilogue. Read and enjoy.

His and only his

Another awesome survivors club read. George the Duke of Stanbrook lost not only his son in the war but his wife shortly after that when she commits suicide. Single know for 12 years he wants someone who will be his companion. After Imogen's wedding to Percy he decides he wants a wife as his companion as he gets older. He can only think of one person that will fit that and it is Agnes's sister Dora Debbins whom he met a year ago.

Dora met the Duke of Stanbrook the previous year at Vincent and Sophie's home. She has never forgotten him. Then all of a sudden he shows up at her cottage and offers marriage. Dora jumps at the chance to finally be married. She assumes she
is to old to have children and the Duke doesn't want any. This is a perfect match they both accept.

When Dora starts to pry and asks George about his 1st wife and son she knows he keeping something from her. When Dora's life is threatened George does everything possible to save her. Another wonderful read. I could not put the book down. I am sad this is the last survivors book but onto another book by Mary Balogh.
