If you run a service business, or you are thinking about starting one, this book does something most business audiobooks don’t. It shows you, in plain language, how to stop being the bottleneck. Tracy explains how she went from being a small UK accountant doing everything herself to running a six-figure firm that does not fall over when she steps away, and she does it without waffle.
What I liked most is how practical it all is. She talks about processes that actually get used, how to communicate with clients without living in your inbox, and how to build a team you can trust to get on with the work. The whole idea of a business that runs without you comes through clearly. If you have ever felt chained to your own company, this will hit home.
The section on employee ownership was a surprise and a good one. You rarely hear that covered in business audiobooks, yet it made a lot of sense when she explained how it fits into keeping people motivated and the business stable.
There is a bit of repetition here and there, which sounds like something that slipped through editing, but it never got in the way of the message.
The narration deserves a mention too. Hearing a northern British female voice in a sea of American business books was refreshing, and Tracy sounds like someone talking to you, not at you.
Overall, this is one of those listens that helps you spot the cracks in your business before they turn into real problems, and it nudges you to grow along with the company rather than being crushed by it.
