In her twenties, Emma Blair marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse. They build a life for themselves, far away from the expectations of their parents and the people of their hometown in Massachusetts. They travel the world together, living life to the fullest and seizing every opportunity for adventure. On their first wedding anniversary, Jesse is on a helicopter over the Pacific when it goes missing. Just like that, Jesse is gone forever.

Emma quits her job and moves home in an effort to put her life back together. Years later, now in her thirties, Emma runs into an old friend, Sam, and finds herself falling in love again. When Emma and Sam get engaged, it feels like Emma’s second chance at happiness. That is, until Jesse is found. He’s alive, and he’s been trying all these years to come home to her. With a husband and a fiance, Emma has to now figure out who she is and what she wants while trying to protect the ones she loves. But who is her one true love? What does it mean to love truly?

This is definitely not the height of literature… nor is it as compelling and arresting as Seven Husbands. There are however beautiful moments, intimacy, heart break and a taste of what it’s like to feel in love through the pages of a book and the eyes of characters. As the title of the review says, it made me cry, and even though I know it’s not perfect, it made me feel and I enjoyed it!

I love Taylor's novels, and this may well be my favourite so far. A powerful and emotional journey, and perfect conclusion. Highly recommended.

Wonderful book

Beautifully told story of love and loss. The narrator really take you on the journey with her. Just beautiful.

Another great book by TJR! I’ve read/listened to the majority of her books now, and am always so impressed! This wasn’t my favourite of hers, but it was very enjoyable.

I did find myself a little disappointed as I could see the outcome forming when Emma was trying to choose between Jessie and Sam, however as the story rounded up I came to understand more why she went with this direction.

Overall a great fast paced story, a brilliant narrator and an ever growing obsession with TJR!

Taylor Jenkins Reid strikes again!

I read the synopsis of this book and was really interested. However the book itself is really quite lack lustre - there’s no real development of character for the two guys, or any of the characters really. It’s just a long monologue about how much the main character loves each of them. I found the narration poor too, the narrator cannot do a male voice at all, it got really annoying.

The best thing about this book is that the author went on to write The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo which is fantastic and I recommend wholeheartedly. It’s quite shocking they’re written by the same author!

Great concept but badly executed
