Summary

"A great book to finish off your summer reading." (Debbie Macomber, number one New York Times best-selling author)

Some families we’re born into
Some we find for ourselves

When Serenity Alston swabbed her cheek for a genetic test, she joked about uncovering some dark ancestral scandal. The last thing she expected was to discover two half sisters she didn’t know existed. Suddenly, everything about her loving family is drawn into question. And meeting these newfound sisters might be the only way to get answers.

The women decide to dig into the mystery together at Serenity’s family cabin in Lake Tahoe. With Reagan navigating romantic politics at work and Lorelei staring down the collapse of her marriage, all three women are converging at a crossroads in their lives. Before the summer is over, they’ll have to confront the past and determine how to move forward when everything they previously thought to be true was a lie. But any future is easier to face with family by your side.

"This heartwarming story of sisters who bond as adults is sure to please...those who enjoy books by Susan Mallery and Debbie Macomber." (Library Journal)

DNA Tests can Change Lives

This book is amazing, you have three woman who agree to meet after a DNA test. Turns out they are half sisters that live in three differant parts of the USA. Now move forward 6 months out they are meeting for a week at Lake Tahoe, California in a cabin. Brenda has written a well developed storyline with many twist and turns. You have believable and likeable characters that flow well with the storyline. You have Lorilie a stay at home Mom, Serenity a novelist, and you have Reagan who is in advertising. All three of the sisters have personal issues in their own lives and appear to be falling apart. You also have Lucy, Lorelie's daughter who is cute as four year old children are. She has a tendency to say what is on her mind. The sisters are bonding and agree to extend the time in the cabin for the summer while they search for answers as to who their father is? This book is written so well you will not guess who the father is. It is totally unexpected and not something I would guess. Erin Bennett does the narration so well she maintains your interest. I highly recommend this book.

Foul language

I was hoping for a clean book and a clean author. Sadly this was a disappointment and I had to return this book.

Nice light listen

The story told was entertaining. It's typical of the Harlequin formula, sweet and definitely not deep. I did enjoy the story but ultimately it's a forgettable one. If I had realized it was a Harlequin I don't think a would have spent an Audible credit for it though.

Not Great

I can't tell if it's terrible writing or terrible narration, but I returned it to Audible street chapter 5. I just couldn't take the soap opera, over-the-top delivery of every word, nor could I overlook it for the trite, tell-not-show story that constantly pointed out the obvious while making a BIG SHOW that there are SECRETS. I just stopped caring.

Perfect!

One Perfect Summer is One Perfect Read.
Three women come together after a DNA test says they are sisters. Two are close in age and the other is two years younger. As they try to figure out whose parents cheated on who, they will discover a lot about themselves and each other along the way.
As the three meet at Serenity's family cabin in Tahoe for a week, they decide to make it a summer vacation and learn all they can about each other. As each woman has her own troubles in their personal lives, it will be the sisters who pull together to help each other out.
To me, this is one of Brenda Novak's better stories and I only have one request, I want more of these sisters. More of the guys next door, their love interest in the future and little Lucy. She is just the cutest and says just what is on her mind.
If you are looking for a new author or even a great read, then you should read this one. I loved it. And I loved Erin Bennett as the narrator.

Interesting Story Concept; Trite Characters

The author took way too long developing characters that often behaved or spoke in banal, to be expected ways. The climatic ending was too rushed to be satisfying and I felt short-changed. I wish the author spent as much time on what happened to the sisters after they discovered how they were related as before they learned the truth about their parentage.

One DNA test...so many questions

One DNA test…so many questions.

When Lorelei, Serenity, and Reagan found out through DNA testing that they had sisters, and decided to meet up and spend some time at Serenity’s family cabin in Tahoe…they never knew what events and shattering secrets they would come upon.

Brenda Novak is an incredible author! One of my favorites, for sure! Her writing is flawless, and the twists in her storylines are perfection! I kept wanting to put One Perfect Summer down, because I didn’t want to get to the end, but I COULDN’T put it down, because it was such a remarkably intense storyline. The characters are all so very memorable…not just the three sisters, but all of the supporting ones as well. The brothers in the neighboring cabin, the parents and relatives, and Lorelei’s daughter (Lucy)…the characters and their backstories are all felt so deeply and are so emotionally twisted and remarkable! I feel personally attached to them all now and wish I could text or call them and see what they are up to right now.

I prefer multiple narrators for multiple POV, which this was written in, but the narrator, Erin Bennett was fantastic! I loved this one and totally recommend it! 5 stars!

Unexpected Ending

Great summer read! Author kept me engaged. The narrator performed wonderfully!

Not my usual type of book, so it was a refreshing choice. Wasn’t love sick or sexually charged and graphic. Nothing gratuitous. I really appreciated that. Recommend this so a reader who enjoys a story laced with provocative thought points, like how to be hurt, but not want revenge.
