Summary

King Geek vs the Cheerleader

Julia Farrow has it all. She's got the friends, the grades, the smile, the perfect reputation, and the new boyfriend who adores her. All in all, life is pretty much perfect for Grover High's favorite cheerleader. Until she's tagged, that is. That ridiculous "Geeks Gone Wild" hashtag is still going strong and while Julia has managed to steer clear of the drama unfolding between the jocks and the geeks, one embarrassing photo is enough to flip her world upside down. The boyfriend? He's out. The friends? Turns out they're more like frenemies. And that perfect reputation? Well, that's all about to crumble as the truth comes out about Julia and her secret, passionate love affair with all things comics.

But Julia isn't about to go down without a fight. She's spent a lifetime honing her perfect image and when it's ruined, there's really only one person to blame. The school paper's editor-in-chief and the guy behind the hashtag - Matt Cartwright. Sure, he claims he's innocent, but if it wasn't for him she'd still be on track to be prom queen. He might not be able to fix this disaster that her life has become, but there's one way he can make it up to her. He can bring her along to the comics convention he's assigned to cover for his internship with the local paper. He's got the tickets, she needs an escape, and really, it's the least he can do. She's just tagging along as a fan, that's all. It's not like they have to be friends or anything. And those kisses? Well, what happens at comic-con stays at comic-con...right?

Geeks Gone Wild Book Three

Geeks Gone Wild Book Three.

When Matt inserted the photo of Suzie and Margo in the senior slideshow, he never thought it would be stuck up on screen for longer than a moment. In the aftermath of that fateful decision, Matt has to earn back his best friends' trust. Julia has never been on Matt's radar as anything other than a popular girl who happens to be nice, but when her Wonder Woman Cosplay photo is the next big conflict he finds out she might be useful. As a writer at the local paper, Matt is assigned the Comic Con article, but he is far from a fanboy. Julia and Matt spend the weekend at the Con and they get to know each other more than they expected.

If you're looking for a cosplay fix with high school romance and the ability to completely let your true self loose, this is the book for you.

Enjoyable and well narrated

Oh I loved this! Matt finally gets his story told. I just love the angle of this story. The characters are so familiar, it was lovely to spend time in this world again.

Lauren Fortgang and Josh Hurley do a great job narrating this story.

🎧 Reviewed for Audiobook Obsession 🎧

This was my favorite book in the series, I hope this series gets into the ears of the young adults that have incurred the subject faced in this series, bullies.
Matt’s story shows that you can’t take everyone at face value, a person you think is unapproachable might be hiding a secret self.
Lauren and Josh did a wonderful job bringing these characters to life.

Another hit!

Absolutely loved this series! Maggie Dallen made you love them all but they were each so unique and special. I wasn't sure about Matt in the other books but I loved getting to know him in this one. It was great how Dallen made the most beautiful girl sweet and kind with her own insecurities. Too often we just assume the standard thing. Enjoyed the whole book from beginning to end! The narrators were awesome and really nailed the characters.

Geeks have all the fun

This is a good book. Enjoyable storyline with good characters. Plenty of drama that you expect with teens. Excellent narration.

Once upon a Comic Con

This is the third book in the series and each book it’s better than the last. I love the role reversal that takes place from what would be the normal stereotype. The popular girl is actually the comic book nerd, and the geeky boy doesn’t have a clue. Another great audio performance by Lauren Fortgang who is quickly becoming a favorite. Each book in the series has had a different male narrator, and while Josh Hurley did an amazing job I would have liked to either have all the same narrators consistently or change both male and female narrators with each book.

great trilogy

This series was so much fun to listen to and Maggie Dallen did not disappoint with book 3. This book was a lot of fun to listen to. The narration was fabulous, and really brought the story that much more depth. Poor Julia, She goes through a lot. But she got her hea. Loved the story.

Third in series

It would be better to start with the first book in the series (Love at First Fight) or at the very least the second book (My Virtual Prince Charming). This is also a continuation of the same story without any cliffhanger endings between the books, and there's a major event in the second book that sets up Once Upon a Comic-Con. It does give some context when the events are mentioned, but you would get a lot more out of this story if you've read the Geeks Gone Wild series in order.

I like the dual point of view with the dual narrators. I'm not sure if Once upon a Comic-Con has more instances where the characters address the reader directly than in the previous books, or if I just hadn't noticed it before now, but there were times in Matt's POV where he comments to the reader that I would have preferred a more conversational delivery. I still liked the narration and found the voices pleasant to listen to.

I was also a little disappointed in the story and would have liked to give it 3.5 stars. Key points were identical to the first book: a popular kid has a geeky hobby that they hide from the school. It wasn't the exact same story twice. The second book focused more on keeping secrets from the other in the relationship while the third focused more on hiding from the community.
