Summary

I was supposed to be partying with a bunch of celebrities in paradise this week, okay?

But then, I made one teeny, tiny error in judgement before leaving New York, and suddenly, the paparazzi expected me to give a command performance as “the other man” in their straight celebrity “outing” of the week.

Um, no, precious. So much no.

Instead, I did what any self-respecting, secret-keeping man would do in that situation: I cancelled my trip and fled New York to hide out in the last place anyone would look for me - a weird, little Florida island where nothing exciting ever happened.

Or, at least, it didn’t...until I arrived.

Now, I find myself shacked up with my fake boyfriend Beale Goodman, Whispering Key’s most adorable, most enormous, most virginal cinnamon roll - a guy who rescues feral cats, believes in soulmates, and talks about happiness like it’s free for the taking.

A guy who nearly convinces me, with every smile and kiss, that it is.

Stranger still? I find myself falling for the people on the island. Fitting in, instead of sticking out. Making, you know, friends. And for the first time ever, I think I’ve found something I want to run to, rather than from....

As long as I can keep my secrets from catching up with me.

Love, love, LOVE it.

This book was so lovely I couldn't put it down, well except when I'm sleeping. Beale & Tobías came to life right before my face. The narration was spectacular. I love it.

Love Toby!

Toby is legit hilarious and such a softie under his snarky exterior. And Beale!! His soulmate stuff seems silly at first and I thought he’d never realize his soulmate was literally right under his nose. These two seem so mismatched but it works so well. and I love Whispering Key - it sounds like such an entertaining place to live.

Big swoon!

Honestly I am such a sucker for a tiny little island oasis with colorful characters and found family vibes! On top of that the snark from Toby had me laughing and Beale was so endearing! As always Michael dean absolutely killed the narration and really brought this rotary to life!! May archer is just so talented at creating really funny characters that have depth to them and stories that just make me want to swoon. I cannot wait for more from Whispering Key!

Opposite attract and (fake?) soulmates.

This book has the usual amazing style we expect from May Archer, it’s sweet and funny and written which such a fresh and enticing style that keeps you turning pages!
I absolutely adored Beale and Toby’s story!
Beale is this HUGE cinnamon roll of a man, shy, inexperienced and believes in everything ethereal. Toby is… his complete opposite. He’s a bit of (no, not really, a complete) drama queen, snarky and worldly.
Their interactions vary from hilarious to super sweet and it’s all incredible to witness to!
Michael Dean makes it all even better with his flawless and heartfelt narration.

Fantastic performance

I was unsure how one narrator could voice two such different characters, but Michael Dean does an amazing job of not only dramatic Toby and calmer Beale, he also really brings the other characters of Whispering Key to life.
If you haven't read the book before, the story is at times hilarious and heart-breaking. You will fall in love with all the characters and be rooting for them. I love the way May Archer writes situations that allow you to consider actions from all aspects.
I received a copy of this audiobook from the author and this is my honest review.

Great listen

Fantastic opposites attract romance which is full of heart and some steamy moments.
Beale is an absolutely sweetheart and he gets his life turned on it’s head when Toby arrives but it’s pure joy to see their romance unfold.

lovely and hilarious

Another sweet and fun story from May.
The only thing that annoys me to the core is how May ALWAYS goes the easy way with her characters. It makes me mad how every time someone hurts another character horribly, they never do anything to get them back because the hurt one comes back on his own just because the abuser is "cute and hot and blah blah blah."
Oh hell no!!! They never fight for each other, which always makes me have a biter feeling, for love is not allowing yourself to be abused and fucked over and come back without a single act of love just cuz some is cute or likes your stupid tv shows.
