About this listen

As a foremost historian of his time, Samuel Rawson Gardiner’s evaluation of Oliver Cromwell has generally been perceived as a work of great significance. Gardiner applies his highly credited critical eye to one of England’s great military and political leaders. Cromwell rose to power during a time of turbulence and civil distress during which he was admired for certain attributes, yet distrusted for others, including his loyalties to Puritanism.

narrator had terrible diction and lacked familiarity with English place names. I would guess that English isnt the mother tongue of the narrator as numerous words mispronounced. Lack of personal insights into oliver cromwell which was dissappointing as historical facts are easily found but an examination of the man himself was hoped for. I struggled to listen and gave up after one chapter.

Terrible pronunciation and lack of detail

It is a surprise that a native speaker is not selected for an historical book. Poor enunciation ruins an excellent book. Reading (the town is NOT read-ing but red-ing. Worcester is not war-cester but Wooseter. These are poor errors and should not be permited in a non-fiction book! Many sentences are misconstrued by poor emphasis that a native speaker would know instinctively. I feel cheated in purchasing this book. I could only bear an hour of this torture. Selling it is really mis-representation! Do not listen if good use of language matters to you.

Badly read

Narration and editing awful. Place names mis-pronounced. Editing bad, with phrases repeated. Please don’t waste your money.
