About this listen
Caspien Deveraux was poison.
It took me years to realise that he hadn't been born like that. He'd been cultivated and nurtured by a careful hand and a bitter heart. When I first met him, he was a bud. One primed to bloom beautifully and deadly. One I should have torn out at the root.
I loathed him. I loved him. And until him, I hadn't known just how completely those two things could exist at once.

After Oleander I'm floored and thoroughly shaken in a good way. The Great Expectations I read years ago so the basis for this reimagined story is familiar to me.
However, I was not prepared for this audiobook to turn out to be what could very well be the best, most painful, grueling, and heartwrenching love story, not to mention a scorching hot and hope-inducing (M/M) romance I've ever read or heard.
The narrator George Naylor did a remarkable job in bringing the characters to life. His range of tones and characteristics in his vocal work is magnificent, completely immersing me into the book. Thus he played an integral part in the story stirring my very being with the events that lead to so much pain and heartache, elation, foreboding dread, crushing disappointment, and pretty much everything in between. So much so that I wept, danced, melted, giggled, and gripped my hair grimacing in turn.
This book is NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! (Note that in the UK where the book is mostly set the age of consent is 16 and the legal drinking age is 18.)
Do heed TWs & Content Warnings by the author:
