About this listen

Lugh is not having a normal year. Someone is trying to frame him for a bunch of gruesome murders, his new girlfriend is way above his batting average, and there's a serial killer in the city, but the police won’t believe him. The drunken street performer knows more than he’s letting on and the macabre ghosts gathering around him keep on telling him they're real.

Saira is better than the world she lives in. But she just met a boy and she can’t get him out of her head. Everything is about to change and whether it’s for better or worse may be up to her.

On the run from the police and sinking in an ever growing body count, Lugh can’t tell if he’s losing his mind or not. Saira just got thrown into a war not of her making. They could work with an oddball crew of the living and the dead to find the real killer and destroy their nemesis, a giant, seething spirit full of violent hatred, before the city is brought to its knees. Or they could give up, roll over and accept their fates.

They are about to be dragged into a dark, bizarre nether world where ghosts and monstrous spirits stalk the streets of the city unseen by all but a few.

I liked the character building and world building. Fast paced and very well written and original plot.

Evocative, scarey and funny

Old Town Ghosts is a gripping and imaginative debut. Think Teenage Sixth Sense with a touch of Voldemort, set in a city where the dead still have a say. Once the story hits its stride, it sweeps you into a dark and compelling world filled with atmosphere, mystery, and tension that builds beautifully. Tom Paul’s writing is richly descriptive and wonderfully immersive. The sensory detail brings every scene to life. At times it borders on poetic, adding depth and texture that lingers long after the chapter ends. The audiobook is a real treat. Tom Pridham’s voice is smooth and captivating, with just the right emotional pull. The character voices are distinct and delivered with real flair, making the whole thing feel like a live performance rather than a simple reading. This is clever, confident storytelling with moments of eerie beauty and sharp character insight. I was half-expecting just a ghostly romance but what I got instead was something even better. Atmospheric, haunting, and completely absorbing. I can’t wait to see what Tom Paul writes next.

A haunting debut that echoes long after the final page

I listened to Old Town Ghosts following a recommendation. Such a good book! Unforgettable characters and an intriguing plot that takes you on an immersive journey. It can be dark and dangerous but there is humour here too, and nicely read by the author. I kept having to pause Audible as I didn’t want to miss anything.
I hope Tom Paul is writing a sequel, I would love to know what happens next for Lugh and Saira
