Summary

From warm-up DJ at the birth of acid house to global main stage headline artist today, Carl Cox continues to inspire and influence audiences and artists. Carl has been everything from a recording artist and producer to label owner, radio DJ and broadcaster. He is still all these things and much more with his star shining brighter than ever. Oh Yes, Oh Yes! tells the story, in his own words, of the man known as 'The Three Deck Wizard' on the rave scene before evolving into 'The People's Choice' and the King of Ibiza, a DJ and artist who remains at the very top of his game and continues to innovate and thrill music lovers on the world's biggest stages.

Starting off as a shelf-stacker, grass-cutter and scaffolder in the south London suburbs, Carl's phenomenal talents as a DJ grew out of a love of music nurtured in his parents' front room. In Oh Yes, Oh Yes!, he takes us to the heart of the party, from the UK rave scene to Burning Man and from Ibiza to Melbourne, with a career that, in many ways, is the story of club culture and an inspiration to all those who choose to follow their dreams while turning him into a living legend along the way. Oh Yes, Oh Yes! is a remarkably candid and intimate portrait of an artist who has never lost touch with the people who share the dance floor with him.

Critic reviews

"Carl is one of the few true pioneers of UK club culture internationally. He has opened the door to so many DJs and inspired so many, including me." (Gilles Peterson)

"Carl Cox wrote the script of what it means to be a DJ." (David Guetta)

"People use the term legend far too easily for my liking, but Carl is legend personified." (Grooverider

"Carl has always been my favourite. He is the complete DJ, also the DJs DJ. Records come to life when he plays them, rooms come to life when he rocks them. His enthusiasm is infectious, his commitment complete." (Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim)

The journey but not the Man.

If you want to know his journey then this is the book for you. If you want to know the man, other than his absolute love and dedication to music, then there are relatively few sentences which give insight in to Carl Cox the man rather than Carl Cox the DJ. That said an interesting book and for people like me, who remember seeing him live 25 years ago, it's a good way to bring back some happy memories. Long may he reign.

Great insight to the worlds biggest DJ

This book is one of the best I have listened to. It goes right back from when Carl started off his career and how he continues to grow to this day, From the content to the narrator it’s an easy listen that goes into great depths. It gets 5 out of 5 from me.

Bit tame

Should have been read by the author, the stories were a bit tame for a superstar DJ, expected more and overall left disappointed

Oh no, oh no

I’ve seen Carl Cox play out many times, in London and at Space, including the epic closing night, so I’ll start by saying I love the man and the scene and I was delighted to see this in my suggestions. Now I understand that Carl Cox isn’t a writer, but the ghostwriting and editing on this tedious book could and should have made a much better job of this. Somehow between them they’ve managed to make a glittering international career of one of dance music’s most loved into something earnest and joyless. If you were hoping for delicious behind the decks stories of glamour and fame, you’ll be disappointed, as the closest this gets is some annoying name-dropping (‘I was once round at Fat Boy Slim’s house…’ purl-eeeese!) Add to the mix cringeworthy narration and you’ve got the absolute worst listen of the year. Oh and because I bought it in the sale, not eligible for return. Don’t waste your money. Spend it downloading a tune instead.

The narrator wasn't right for this book

Really interesting hearing how Mr Cox got started and all the stories. But the narrator just wasn't right for it. Every time he said DJay made me cringe, and you can imagine how many times that was said during this book!!

Poor narration, monotonous. Left last 90 minutes

If you literally can’t handle the last 90 minutes, that should tell you all you need to know.

Engaging & Inspirational - Oh Yes!

Having been a clubber since the late 80s this audiobook brings back a lot of great memories. Sounds like he's not just one of the best DJs on the planet, but one of the nicest people too - very humble and genuine. Thanks for all the memories big guy ... and for many more to come!
