Rosario Castellanos se sumerge en la historia y sus protagonistas para buscar entender las circunstancias que llevaron a un pueblo a tan desgarrador acontecimiento y lo recrea en un México cercano: el de la reforma agraria durante el gobierno de Lázaro Cárdenas.
