Feared across South London, the King family rule their streets with ruthless efficiency and unshakeable loyalty. Betray them, and you’re finished. Stand with them, and they’ll burn the world down before they let anyone touch you.

Dominic Rowe has always been invisible—an autistic young man tucked away in a South London council bedsit, unnoticed and underestimated. Gifted with numbers, patterns, and systems, but burdened by loneliness, Everything changes the night he’s cornered by muggers—and saved by Cain King, the hardedged leader of the King gang.

To Cain, Dominic isn’t a nobody. He’s a rare asset: a mind built for logic, a calm spirit under pressure, and a kind of honesty and loyalty the Kings value above all else.

Taken in by the family—not as muscle but as their brain—Dominic begins to find belonging for the first time in his life. With the support of Cain’s fierce and protective sister, Romi King, the family adapt their world to fit Dominic’s sensory needs, and soon he’s transforming their operations.

But with the NCA tightening its grip and dangerous rivals closing in, Dominic faces an impossible choice: bend to the pressure of law enforcement… or pull the entire London underworld down in the name of the only people who ever saw his worth.

In a world that dismisses him because he’s different, Dominic’s brilliance becomes the most dangerous weapon the Kings have ever wielded.

A gritty, emotional thriller about loyalty, identity, and the power of being underestimated.

I really enjoyed listening to Oath to the Kings and although it was out of my usual comfort zone, I think that Dan Burford did a brilliant job of making the genre accessible to a new audience!

Having a neurodivergent character so promininent in a gang/crime novel was an intriguing take and allowed for an interesting perspective, really highlighting their strengths, rather than trying to minimise the character as a other novels using stereotypes might do.

The experience was furthered by a fantastic reading by Joe Price who really captured each character in a distinct voice and tone, with an impressive variety of accents to bring the world to life.

The tone changed towards the middle of the book which felt less engaging for me personally, but picked up momentum again with a great ending!!

Recommended! (:

I don’t read many crime-family novels because I struggle to care about the characters. But the King family are so fun and sympathetic - as they engage with Dominic - that I found myself getting really invested. The narrator brings the many characters brilliantly to life! Really enjoyed this audiobook.

Lively world of loyalty and family

While the book felt a little long in places, the excellent story telling from Joe & Dan kept me listening & entertained. This served as my introduction into Audiobooks, and I would highly recommend it

I am new to the gangland genre, but I found this story totally engaging, especially dealing as it does with issues around autism. The characters are very believable and Joe Price brings them fully alive in his wonderful narration! I would thoroughly recommend this book!

Excellent story, wonderfully narrated!

Highly recommend! One of the best gangland books I’ve listened to this year! Completed listening in two and a bit days - I look forward to more of Dan’s books to make it to audible!

Brutally brilliant!
