Summary

Miguel wants to be noticed.

Miguel Cordero Ruiz always considered himself straight, but his sexy anatomy professor, Dr. Cummings, is making him seriously rethink that. While the professor who lives across the street is supposedly a “bird watcher”, it's rumored he’s really spying on the male students who live in Miguel's building. When rumor is confirmed as fact, Miguel decides to give the professor a show he won’t forget.

Aldrich is afraid of being seen.

Aldrich Cummings has led a lonely existence. That all changes when he sees his gorgeous new neighbor moving in across the street. When he discovers the guy he’s been secretly watching from his office window is not only aware of his audience, but is enjoying it, Aldrich is even more entranced. Miguel is his student, and therefore off-limits, but what the administration doesn’t know won’t hurt them.

It was supposed to be harmless and meaningless voyeurism.

As time passes, the desire between them burns so brightly it inevitably explodes. Both will face consequences if the university finds out what the professor and his student have been getting up to. They will need to navigate the obstacles in their path to find the happiness both have been searching for.

Now You See Me is a stand-alone MM novel. It contains one not-straight Navy vet, one professor afraid of being touched, nosy relatives, nosier neighbors, troublesome colleagues, voyeurism, The Pleasure Chest, binoculars, a Maginot Line made from pillows, and a HEA for two men who deserve happiness.

LOVED IT!

I began impatiently waiting for this audio before it even started recording, when we found out the Narrator. Kirt Graves has become one of my favorite narrators lately. I knew he was going to do an amazing job with one of my favorite books of 2019. He truly brought Miguel and Aldrich to life for me. He made this writers wonderful writing soar and it’s going to be a re-listen for me for sure. Now that I am done tooting Kirt’s praises, I loved Miguel and Aldrich’s story! My heart went out to Aldrich as in the inside he was a lost boy, who was desperately seeking love. He didn’t think or feel like he deserved that love. He’d been pushed away and treated so indifferently for so long, he believed those who weren’t worthy of him. Aldrich broke my heart thinking that no one would ever want stay with him. That nothing lasted forever. Aldrich did deserve love and Miguel endeavored to show him he was worthy of that love, which gave me butterflies. I loved that Miguel went after what he wanted and didn’t take no for an answer from Aldrich. Miguel was such a strong man and I loved his fierce protectiveness of Aldrich, his siblings and friends. Speaking of friends, Miguel’s friend Luna is a total riot, and to be honest, I want to be besties with her! She was so strong willed and fought for the men in her life, and didn’t take crap from anyone! She was an awesome character in this book! Oh! I have to say I adored the chapter headings, they gave me a good chuckle. If you’re looking for a great read with a Professor/student relationship, an age gap, a bit of hurt comfort, with sexy times and some humor tossed in, I couldn’t recommend this book more!

Unexpected!

So, I read the blurb for Now You See Me and it sounded interesting and well, while I haven't read/listened to all of Lynn Van Dorn's books, the ones I have are among my favorites, so I jumped at the chance to listen to this story and while it wasn't what I expected, I really enjoyed it.

Miguel was all kinds of adorable and sweet and hot and while younger than Aldrich and one of his students, I felt they were on pretty equal ground. Miguel just knew how to give Aldrich what he needed when Aldrich didn't even know it himself, gaining the handsome professor's trust in a way that no one had until then. And Aldrich, well, my heart broke for him at having to deal with his selfish aunt after losing his parents so young. It's no wonder he was such a hot mess and avoided touch like the plague, even if he craved the connection he finally found with Miguel. It wasn't easy and they both made mistakes and I loved that Luna (Miguel's neighbor and friend) was there to point them both in the right direction when they needed it the most. The progression of their relationship was very realistic and I really liked that Miguel was able to push through Aldrich's defenses and that while their relationship had a very unconventional start, it gave way to something deeper, more meaningful as time passed. They were hot together, but it was more than that, they just connected in ways that neither of them anticipated and that was the best part of the story.

This book had the potential to be an angst-fest, but it was offset with the presence and support and comedic relief that Luna, Dev and Miguel's family provided—I just adored them all, by the way—and the hotness that was Miguel and Aldrich together, be it in the bedroom or through their texting/sexting or just being there for each other.

I really liked Kirt Graves's performance, he gave all the characters a distinctive voice, somehow managing to imprint a lot of their personality in it. Also as a Spanish native speaker, I can be very particular over books/audiobooks that have a lot of Spanish in it, but Kirt's Spanish was actually better than I expected, so that's always a good thing.

This book has a bit of very light power play in it and some mentions of attempted rape, so if that's not your thing, proceed with care, but other than that, I have no trouble recommending it.

Age gap, student/teacher

My heart broke for poor Aldrich.
The horrific trauma he suffered throughout his childhood left him feeling broken and unworthy of love.
Miguel was meeting Aldrich helped him solidify some truths about himself, namely the ability to be true to himself concerning his sexuality.
Miguel was such an extraordinary influence for Aldrich, giving him the time and space to deal with his issues in his own way and to finally see himself as worthy of love through Miguel's eyes.
Together they embark on an exploration of themselves and each other which leads to the discovery and mutual enjoyment of the kinky pleasures of voyeurism.
A beautifully touching and emotionally compelling story about facing your fears and overcoming them.
Kirt Graves did an extremely wonderful job narrating and I especially enjoyed Miguel's accent.

To be seen for your true worth and finding love

I started reading this originally as an ebook ARC a while back and didn't engage with it at the time, though I think that had more to do with my own headspace than any issues with the story as a whole as Lynn Van Dorn always creates rich, complex and quirky characters.
When this finally came out as an audiobook narrated by the wonderfully talented Kirt Graves, I was able to finally pick up this book and delve all the way through to the end of the story as Aldrich and Miguel find their own ways to truly see and be seen while falling in lust, then love. I like how the characters all get their own HFN/HEA in one way or another.
Recommended for lovers of contemporary MM romance with a bit of light bondage and interfering family and friends thrown in for good measure.

Another Win for Lynn

Another great listen from Lynn Van Dorn. This book is a Professor/Student romance with some light kink thrown in. The characters are well written and the story flows well.
I really liked the main characters Aldrich and Miguel, their chemistry was hot 🔥and there was very little angst.
As always Kirt Graves did an excellent job narrating.

hot, hot, hot!

This story is an incredibly unique take on the teacher-student trope, and I really, really enjoyed it. The story focuses on Aldrich and Miguel. What can really make or break a story for me are the characters, and I found both of these characters very intriguing. Although Aldrich is the older of the two, as well as in the "traditional" power role as the professor, he is very unsure and desperately needs someone to take charge. Miguel might be the younger student, but he is very much in charge. The dynamic between the two was very strong, and incredibly sexy. I doubt I will ever forget to close my bedroom windows after reading this book!

It's a longer story, and the plot is strong. I found it was very engaging, with few lulls. It does have a fair bit of angst, as most of Van Dorn's books do. Although in their personal dynamic Miguel was very much in charge, there is the issue that Aldrich is his professor so that was an important conflict in the story. There were also internal conflicts as both protagonists struggled with their perception of themselves which I felt was really authentic and handled well.

The narration was also very strong. it was clean, well edited, and had great pacing. I didn't love the voices at all times - Miguel's felt a little off to me, but I'm willing to take the blame on that as personal preference. Overall I'd rath the audiobook as a 4.5 stars. Really enjoyable all around!

Couldn’t stop listening

I loved this book and read/listened to it in one day. A professor/student age gap romance with some light kink.

Aldrich is an awkward kind of guy, his childhood really shaped who he is today and he’s really failed at relationships. Miguel is just out of the Navy and looking to get working on his next chapter of becoming a radiologist, he’s certainly not looking for love until he starts up his unconventional relationship with the profess across the street.

Both of these characters grow throughout the story and find that they are each the part the other has been missing. They have amazing chemistry which is well written.

Some great supporting characters, Luna is something else!

Highly recommend this book but be prepared to lose yourself in it.

Kurt Graves is becoming a favourite narrator of mine, is range of accents is fantastic and he delivered another great narration here.

Exellent story

I liked this story because it had the right amount of feelings and complications in it to make me pay really good attention to it.
Aldrich and Miguel are very different but I’m very charmed by Aldrich and the challenges he has to overcome, also Miguel has a personality that is so patient.
The characters is very well written and their familiar to me when the book ends. These are characters I would love to know what else is happening to them.
No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
Good dialogues
Secondary characters that are intriguing and deserves their own stories.

Narrator:
Clear pronunciation and read with feelings, enjoyable listening to.

5 stars overall.

Super Sexy!!!

WOW this was way sexier then i Expected it to be. The voyeurism aspect was incredible and both of the guys really grew on me as the story went on. I'm so glad they got their HEA. Kirt Graves is always such a pleasure to listen to but he really nailed the character nuances of this book and I loved it.
