Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The new unstoppable thriller from the multi-million-copy best-selling author of The Couple Next Door.

In this family, everyone is keeping secrets - even the dead.

In the quiet, wealthy enclave of Brecken Hill, an older couple is brutally murdered hours after a tense Easter dinner with their three adult children. Who, of course, are devastated.

Or are they? They each stand to inherit millions. They were never a happy family, thanks to their vindictive father and neglectful mother, but perhaps one of them is more disturbed than anyone knew. Did someone snap after that dreadful evening? Or did another person appear later that night with the worst of intentions? That must be what happened. After all, if one of the family were capable of something as gruesome as this, you'd know.

Wouldn't you?

A very enjoyable listen

I might not have bought this if I had taken any notice of the reviews, since quite a few are negative. However, since I have enjoyed the author's other books, I decided to go ahead anyway. I'm glad that I did. It's the first book in a long time that has had me hooked; I listened to it in a few sittings and found it very enjoyable. Perhaps not quite the twisty ending that I was hoping for but still very good. I had no issues at all with the narrator, but everyone is obviously entitled to their opinion.

Shari Lapena, you had me fooled!

With twists and turns galore, this book about a dysfunctional family will leave you guessing right up until the end. I thoroughly enjoyed trying to work out the plot, well done, Shari, great book.

Disappointing

I normally really like this author but this book was a let down. Unresolved ending, horrible unlikeable characters. I wasn’t invested in any of them. Such a shame. Narrators voice was also grating

Don’t waste your time on this.

I just couldn’t get into this book at all. I listened to it for a few hours and felt that the plot & story was just going no where. Too many characters to keep track of and not enough of a ‘juicy plot’ to keep the reader/listener interested.

Good twists.

Some great twists and turns but a bit I was a bit let down at the ending.

Kept me guessing

I enjoyed this book. very easy to get to know the characters and I guessed anyone of them couldve been the guilty party. I wasn't sure right till the very end so it kept my interest and I would recommend it to anyone.

very mechanical reader

Great story, too bad some of the enjoyment was taken away by an extremely mechanical reader. At times it sounded like siri was reading the book, a pity.

Okay but thank goodness it was free

I'm glad I didn't purchase this book. It was okay for a free read but I quickly became irritated by the style of writing, he said, she said. The writer seemed to add things willy nilly almost like she had written something and thought, "oh no. I should have said xyz to back up what I've just said." it didn't really flow and as for the character's guilty secrets, it didn't wash.
