Cutler Ryder was everything I wasn’t. He was the hockey star. I was an outcast. He was best friends with my stepbrother, that same stepbrother who hated me. His two parents loved him. My mom was a junkie. My dad barely knew me. Years passed. I got my life together. Cut went onto NHL stardom. Then there was a text.

Story
I’m good at hiding my feelings. Having to pretend I’m not in love with my best friend? Pfft. That’s child’s play. Here’s how I do it: I avert my eyes when he walks out of his room, shirtless in all his toned glory. I squash the butterflies that fill my stomach every time he slowly unfurls a dimpled smile. Not to brag, but Aiden Smith isn’t hard to resist if you’ve been doing it for as long as I have. In fact, we might have continued as best friends forever if not for the fact that I needed him to play the part of my fake boyfriend.

I didn't mean to star in a sex tape, okay? It was just one of those unexplainable things. Like Stonehenge, Police Academy 2, and morning glory clouds. It just happened. Now, my ball-busting father is sentencing me to six months of celibacy, sobriety, and morbid boredom under the roof of Boston's nerdiest girl alive, Sailor Brennan. The virginal archer is supposed to babysit my ass while I learn to take my place in Royal Pipelines, my family's oil company. Little does she know, that's not the only pipe I'll be laying....

My love story all started with a letter. Only it wasn’t from the man I’d eventually fall in love with. It was from his daughter. A sweet little girl named Birdie Maxwell who’d written to the magazine that I worked for. You see, once a year my employer fulfilled a few wishes for readers. Only that column didn’t start up again for months. So I fulfilled some of her wishes myself. It was harmless…so I thought. Until one day I took things too far. While anonymously granting yet another of Birdie’s wishes, I got a look at her father.

Story
The first time I met Hudson Rothschild was at a wedding. I’d received an unexpected invitation to one of the swankiest venues in the city. Hudson was a groomsman and quite possibly the most gorgeous man I’d ever laid eyes on. He asked me to dance, and our chemistry was off the charts. I knew it wasn’t a good idea to get involved with him, considering the wedding I was at. But our connection was intense, and I was having a great time. Though the fun came to a screeching halt when Hudson figured out I wasn’t who I’d said I was.

I’d like to preface this by saying it was never my intention to ever get involved in a workplace romance, let alone get involved with the most surly, agitating, and pompous man I’ve ever met who just so happens to be my new friend’s brother. My intentions were to show students how English and reading books could actually be fun and make a new life for myself in the suburbs of Chicago.

Story
Everyone expects Billie Bridgerton to marry one of the Rokesby brothers. The two families have been neighbours for centuries, and as a child the tomboyish Billie ran wild with Edward and Andrew. Either one would make a perfect husband...someday. There is only one Rokesby Billie absolutely cannot tolerate, and that is George. He may be the eldest heir to the earldom, but he's arrogant, annoying and she's absolutely certain he detests her. Which is perfectly convenient, as she can't stand the sight of him, either.

If people have polar opposites, Luca Rossi is mine. His butt is in the baseball hall of fame. Mine's comfortably seated in the hall of lame. When he's not snagging fly balls out in center field, he's modeling in shampoo commercials. I once jammed my own finger while stirring cookie dough, and sometimes I forget shampoo is a thing. He's a total cynic when it comes to love. I make a living writing love stories. But after my latest broken engagement (no, I don't want to talk about how many times that's happened), it's clear he's exactly the man I need.

I’m not boyfriend material. If a trail of broken hearts and a piss-poor record of failed relationships have taught me anything, it’s this. My buddies are happy to give me shit about my latest breakup from here to next Sunday. Thanks, but I’d rather have a root canal. And a vasectomy. At the same time. Relief comes in an unlikely package - the gorgeous and feisty Maren. She just so happens to be my best friend’s sister, so that’s not awkward at all.

Summary
A full-length standalone romantic comedy from USA TODAY best-selling author R.S. Grey.
"Oh my god. Who is that?"
I get asked this question a lot.
"Oh him?" I reply. "That's just Ian."
Just Ian is the biggest understatement of the century. Just the Mona Lisa. Just the Taj Mahal. Just Ian, with his boring ol' washboard abs and dime-a-dozen dimpled smile.
Just Ian is...just my best friend.
We're extremely close, stuck so deep inside a Jim-and-Pam-style friendzone everyone at work assumes we're a couple - that is until one day, word spreads through the teacher's lounge that he's single. Fair game. Suddenly, it's open season on Ian.
He should be reveling in all the newfound attention, but to our mutual surprise, the only attention he seems to want is mine.
He's turning our formerly innocent nightly chats into X-rated phone calls. Our playful banter sports a new, dangerous edge.
I want to assume he's playing a prank on me, just pushing my buttons like always - but when Ian lifts me onto the desk in my classroom and slides his hands up my skirt, he doesn't leave a lot of room for confusion.
I'm a little scared of things going south, of losing my best friend because I can't keep my hands to myself. So, I'm just going to back away and not return this earth-shattering kiss - oh who am I kidding?!
Goodbye Ian, ol' buddy, ol' pal!
Helloooo mister not so nice guy.

Good Humor
Like with the other R.S. Grey books I've listened too the narration is always good and I am guaranteed to laugh. They are sort of my go-to books whenever I've listened to something heavy and need light and fun. This story was no different. Sam and Ian mesh really well in this story. Best Friends who are both secretly in love with the other and although Samantha is scared to take the relationship beyond friends Ian is all for it. Samantha's character is silly and quirky and will make you laugh. I thought it was worth the credit.

Started out great...ending not so much
This book started out interesting and quirky, but quickly went down hill. It became formulaic and predictable with the twist literally being that the heroine has a histerical breakdown - this isn’t even a spoiler, its so predictable.
I was really taken with the characters, there was great chemistry and I really like a ‘friends to lovers’ romance, but then I lost interest when the author once again made the men in the book calm and reasonable and the women bitches, stupid, histerical or unreasonable.

Really nice guy and girl.
Ian is definitely a nice guy, and totally swoonworthy. Sam(antha) is his perfect match. Sometimes friends to lovers novels don’t work for me if the friendship is established off-page before the book begins. However, RS Grey got the formula right here, as she lets the reader feel the deep, loyal friendship Ian and Sam share, plus their frustration because they want more, and their fear of losing what they have. All this is set up with excellent banter and situational comedy.
This novel is for you if you love romance that builds from quick, clever repartees, tongue in cheek humour, respectful, loyal characters with “normal” occupations, slow-burn build-up to the main sexual event – meaning the deep abiding love comes first; and light, happy romance between characters content to live and work in the town where at least one of them grew up.
I listened on Audible. Narrator Luci Christian Bell was a new voice for me, but she carried the youthful, light, humorous tone perfectly for Sam; and Teddy Hamilton was also perfect for Ian. I would like to request more Teddy Hamilton as the hero in audiobooks – his voice is like a honeyed balm. Totally swoonworthy. Together, the narrators were wonderful and gave me a thoroughly enjoyable, romantic experience.
I bought the Whispersync option by first clicking on the Kindle version on Amazon.com, then turning to Audible for the audio version (together, this package is cheaper than the Audible version alone and less than an Audible credit). So worth it to seamlessly switch between reading and listening.
I recommend this novel, especially in the Audible version, but if you can, Whispersync it. It’s a financial and entertainment win-win.

Pretty Good
Teddy Hamilton is one of my favorites. I can listen to him all the time.
Luci Bell was pretty good. First time listening to her narration and I think she did good at portraying Sam.
I like R.S. Grey's books for fun easy listening audibles. This one was not one of my favorites, but I also had to finish it. It had it's funny moments and some predictable ones. I didn't understand the non-kissing moments, I mean I get holding off the sex, but the kissing...come on Ian. Also, Sam was so into Ian, but when it came to him trying to be with her she pushed him away or acted like she was not into him like she wasn't drooling over him.

Narration.....
I really liked this story. Predictable HEA but loved it anyway.
The woman was an over-thinker by personality, which is okay, but the further into the book it went it seemed, the more dramatic she became. The more drama there was, the more immature her voice sounded. I went from her sounding like a young, adult professional in the beginning to feeling 3/4 way through that she was a drama teen.
I liked the story well enough to finish but will also be aware in the future when looking at narrators.

don't waste your credit
I wanted a light read (listen) as I unpacked the boxes in my new apartment. Thought this was going to be a cutesy rom-com, but this was more like a badly written erotica with little or no character development. Cringed at how helpless the female protagonist felt for no reason what so ever. Most attempts at humor were either stereotypical or just really bad. Save your time and credit for a better book. The only thing good was the narration.

Enjoyable
At times, I loved this book. I liked the characters and their professions, and I've always loved the idea of best friends to something more. However, I had a few issues with the execution of the plot and it just felt like it could have been stronger at times. Overall, I really did like this and it made me laugh like R.S. Grey's books always do, but it's not taking the place of my favourite by her.

very annoying female character
The narration was fine. The female character was immature, clumsy, and it was annoying that her stupid, almost nonsensical thoughts took foeveeeeevvveeeerrr to stop each time. I skipped ahead quite a bit, but honestly, I wish I had stopped listening earlier in the book
