About this listen

The fourth volume of autobiography from legendary foreign correspondent, John Simpson. Read by the author.

For over fifty years, John Simpson has travelled the world to report on the most significant events of our time. In Not Quite World's End, he offers a lively and upbeat look at the challenges and changes the world has gone through in his life and long career.

He looks at the world's troubles – war in the Middle East, global warming, population explosion – and takes the perhaps surprising view that it's actually not nor will be the end of the world. His vivid prose, his clear-sightedness and the wonderful anecdotes about the many strange people and places he has come across – from emperors to movie stars, from Chelsea to China – all add up to a richly satisfying read that will transport you around the globe.

With his vast experience and remarkable ability to explain what's really going on out there, he offers us all a crumb of comfort in desperate times.

'A very fine journalist' – Nelson Mandela

'Inspirational, anecdotal, humorous and chilling. Simpson's unbiased accounts are riveting' – Bob Geldof

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book. It is all the better for being read by the author and if, like me, you enjoy news and current affairs you will find this book a fascinating insight into world events over the last decade.

It is also peppered with some very personal insights and John shares with us the journey he has taken with his newborn sun. Heartwarming, funny, thought provoking and sad I can recommend this book to anyone who has reached their middle years and feels gloom is all around us! Hear what he has to say about the Beeb and you will soon realise that we must never lose this national institution.

I will look forward to more from this author.

A wonderful listen

I have always enjoyed John’s column in the British Airways magazine when travelling, love his description of places and life. Now with my arm in a sling unable to hold a book my first thought was to download one of his books.

Brilliant narration

If you like John Simpson, as indeed I do, this is one not to miss.

I have listened to most of his audiobooks, and this must rank among the best. Here we have the author in a very contemplative mood, covering a whole variety of episodes in his life, all of which are incisive, interesting and entertaining. If you add to this his excellent diction, I don't think you could want for more. 4+ hours of very rewarding listening.

SIMPSON AT HIS VARIED BEST

I have listened to all John Simpsons books, and find them a shere
delight. His attention to minor detail along with his very british tone make for very easy and informative listining.
He must have some more stories in him, so if you read this John, get writting, love your work.

Andy, Ireland.
