Summary

This book is for everyone who has a father. And for all those who know what it's like to long for a father's blessing: his approval, affection, and attention. It's for anyone who's ever longed to hear your dad say, "I love you. I'm so proud of you."

You may already know what it's like to live in the rays of such a blessing, to flourish in the marvelous light of a father's love. Yet, in this "fatherless generation", it's also likely you've never known the blessing of your earthly dad. The possibility of hearing the words "I love you, I'm proud of you" may be gone - washed away by your dad's death or distance or divorce or disinterest.

But here's the good news: Regardless of how amazing or absent, invested or disinterested, empowering or deflating your earthly father was or is, you do have a perfect Father. We see all throughout Scripture that God wants us to know him as Father and wants us to live under the waterfall of his blessing.

In Not Forsaken, Pastor Louie Giglio invites us to reframe our view of fatherhood by understanding that God is not simply the bigger version of our earthly dads; he is the perfect version of our earthly dads.

Lifechanging

From the fatherless kid who has found a father in Jesus, thank you for this. Now that this book is finished, I can start it again.

Good message, but...

Giglio's reading performance was really good. He was easy to listen to and entertaining. I felt the first part of the book had a good message. I don't think it is a new message necessarily, but I like Giglio's take on God. I started to lose interest in the second half. I felt like the same message was being repeated again, only with different words and stories. I enjoyed Giglio's personal stories of his own father and as a father himself. Giglio's description of God as a perfect father is a good reminder of who God is. The message was heartfelt. IMHO, I think the book may have oversimplified the healing process that a person (abused by his or her father) needs to go through. Some may have more difficulty completely detaching the association between his or her two fathers, as Giglio describes. I didn't finish the book, so perhaps I missed something.

A great reminder of God as the perfect father!

I love Louie’s passion and energy in his writing and speaking. This message is one that we need to be reminded of constantly with the negative views the world sends us. You are loved by a perfect father and have been given everything you need to succeed spiritually in Him!
