Summary

When the City of London police raided the home of boiler room suspect and stockbroker mason's home in 2011, what came next was a roller-coaster ride from hell taking this former city boy into the bowels of one of Europe's most notorious prisons.

Housing murderers, rapists, cartel members and this middle-class boy from Essex. Not Another Prison Diary tells you what happened in the aftermath of the UK's first "Wolf of Wall Street" style conviction.

"Want to see inside? What about "Inside"!

A story that is unabashedly true and unblemished by artistic license. This is a true account of one man's time behind bars in Modern Britain, within an ancient prison.

"In 2011 I said goodbye to my family and walked into the first day of my new life. A name in the morning, a number at night. My comfortable suburban home, swapped for a shared cell, surrounded by murderers, rapists and the very dregs of society you'd cross the road to avoid.

This is my inside story, of inside life. A diary, unlike others. Suicide, gangbanging, billionaire barbers and a shed load of heroin.

My crimes? I was the UK's first boiler room conviction.

Think Wolf of Wall Street, but a less impressive resume, slightly fewer drugs and a different accent. But that's me. And this is my no-holds-barred diary of exactly what goes on in the Queen's finest establishments.

I hope this read helps you if you are about to walk this path, or if you need a reason to think twice before doing anything a little stupid. I wrote this for you.

This is your white-collar crime to prison tracksuit fairytale, and I'm in charge of the class."

Not what is says on the tin

If you are looking for an insight of prison life this isn't it. The author spends most of the time in a state of self-congratulatory back slapping, with very little actual description of real life beyond how clever he is and what a great job he did of surviving 'the system', which no doubt DOES have various shortcomings, but these aren't really explored.

At the very end of the book, (SEMI-SPOLIER ALERT!) the author is transferred to HMP Ford, an open prison in Arundel, Sussex. He moans about this too, and rather than go into detail of why (surely the point of anyone buying the book?) he actually says he's not going to go into details of his time there, and again switches the subject back to himself!

The style of presentation makes it very difficult to feel any sort of sympathy for the authors' plight, and you are left feeling as if you've just listened to an autobiography rather than an account of life the other side of the bars. Disappointing.

Fascinating and moving personal experience

Intriguing, fascinating and moving personal experience that shows how the prison system can make or break a human. Really enjoyed the narrating style and would definitely listen to another by the same author/narrator.

Narrated with personality, story lacking content

Enjoyed the narration, it passed the time as i was out walking. Felt like i missed half the book, when he (understandably) omitted storys of individuals and situations

nice listen but not that intresting

As bad as the remake of Porridge

Attempts, badly, to make his stay interesting. Unfortunately it never delivers. Bland, boring and and uninspiring. Give it a miss!

Fantastic story and a brilliant read/listen. I would highly recommend this audio book to anyone who is interested in an accurate insight into the life of a man who finds himself in the UK prison system.
