Summary

For generations, nobles have gathered at a scenic estate once per year to compete. What transpires there is spoken of only in rumors, save for the prizes. Potent, powerful, and precious; the winners are said to receive a gift from magic itself.

Reeling after their loss to Kalzidar, the adventurers from Maplebark can only press forward, following advice imparted by the gods. Their divine directions will lead them on a series of twisting paths, branching between old friends and new challenges, before ultimately pointing at a particular estate on a specific evening.

Thrust from the familiar comfort of the wilds, the party will have to navigate the perils of noble society while keeping themselves in the competition. Between scheming nobles, a hidden high priest, dangerous challenges, and too many familiar faces, just making it out alive will be a challenge. But surviving alone won't be enough; not with a vengeful god scheming in the shadows, and a stolen soul waiting for rescue.

If the party wants their chance to strike back, they'll have to find a way to emerge victorious.

Hayes has done it again. After what felt like a long wait (not Patrick Rothfuss long, just COVID long) Noble Roots comes along and makes every minute worthwhile. Some of the revelations in this one are jaw-dropping, and seeds of mysteries are sewn but not reaped (hehe), leaving us hanging on until book 6, whenever that may be.

Absolutely love this series.

Love this series! Dont want it to ever end! I keep reccommending this series to anyone who would remotely be interested in this as I just want everyone to lose themselves into this world. It's everything any D&D fan would love

When i started this series i had assumed that the fifth book would be the conclusion, and I was 80% through this epic story before I realised that there was more to come that had yet to be released. The story manages to further develop the assortment of characters in an authentic and interesting way while managing to grow in unexpected ways.

I have loved this series from book one and was delighted when I could pre order this title. Took me a while to get around to listening as I’ve been so busy with work and so it’s been the journey to and from work for a few weeks now but I enjoyed every single second. Delighted the same narrator keeps coming back and the story, although in some ways we could see what was coming is developing nicely.
This is not a stand-alone and you need to read the others before this but by the time you get to this one you’ll be just as hooked.
