About this listen

You think it will never happen to you: the ring of the bell, the policeman on the doorstep. What he says traps you in a nightmare that starts with the words, 'I'm afraid…'

Sally Lambert is also afraid, and desperate enough to consider the unthinkable. Is it really, definitely, impossible to escape from this horror? Maybe not. There’s always something you can do, right?

Of course, no one would ever do this particular something–except the Lamberts, who might have to.

No one has ever gone this far. Until Sally decides that the Lamberts will…

That was drivel, really strange and badly constructed. I didn’t get the point of it at all

Don’t have any idea what I just read

I nearly gave up with this as it seemed tedious and childish for the first half, only near the end ( last two hours on audible) did I see what the writer was doing. I wouldn't have persisted if I hadn't read other books by the same author which I knew were excellent.

the ending is the srory

Stick with it. Although it is a little slow, it's worth reading. It's not a crime book like usual but still with crimes involved, some great twists and great characters both humans and dogs.

a little slow but worth it in the end

Sophie Hannah's books are always outlandish with ridiculous plots and odd characters but enjoyable and fun nevertheless. Unfortunately, I found this really dull and wasn't sure I'd bother finishing it. I did carry on as was expecting a payoff at the end but even that was uninteresting.

Very disappointing

I live for Sophie Hannah to publish new novels - she’s a genius author and I can’t get enough of her books. This one did not disappoint - the usual excellent writing, fiendish mysteries, skill and flair combined this time with some topical themes, and a lovely and unexpected ‘meta’ element that brought to mind another of my favourite crime authors - Anthony Horowitz. Simply loved it. Roll on the next one.

Worth the wait
