They were the Savages. Raiders from our distant past. Elites who left Earth to create tailor-made utopias aboard the massive lighthuggers that crawled through the darkness between the stars. But the people they left behind on a dying planet didn't perish in the dystopian nightmare the Savages had themselves created: they thrived, discovering faster-than-light technology and using it to colonize the galaxy ahead of the Savages, forming fantastic new civilizations that surpassed the wildest dreams of Old Earth.

We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

While some species succumb to the pandemonium, the Chut’un forge an unholy symbiotic relationship—The Order—with red Europhids, a vast hive intelligence populating the universe’s far reaches. Summary
Failure is a hateful word.
For Dark Ops Sergeant Kel Turner, it’s unthinkable. Until now. Kill teams are accustomed to achieving the impossible, and Kill Team Three has done the impossible more than any other. Tasked with mission after mission against a never-ending list of enemies, Kel and Three brace themselves to rise to the occasion yet again.
Kel lives under no doubts about his kill team’s ability to win against any odds, until an enemy thought long defeated reappears. From a dingy city locked in the center of a cold war to a nightmarish alien landscape, the one constant that defines their latest missions is that a kill team is always alone.
Living in the black world of covert operations, there are secrets, then there are secrets. The first might lead to his death. The second might lead to failure.
For this Dark Operator, in a galaxy filled with potentials, death is preferable to failure.

not just a sci fi, but a brilliant book altogethe
it reads like a proper military book, with all the tactics, the missions, the drama. no magic genie the rescue the hero, just good old fashion hard training.
what i love about this series is that the hero is a hard worker, no sci fi magic to overpower him, and to those critics out there saying there isn't enough fighting, they need to realise that war isn't a constant fight. is many battles spread through a number of months/years

a book and a half
besides a few narrative inconsistencies the VO is good. the book starts in a cold war Berlin style city where half the book takes place. this is quite good but nothing special. the 2nd half had me on the edge of my seat expecting something amazing for the series and Galaxy but instead was left with a lackluster story and only a couple robots to keep me from turning it off

Let down
I keep getting the next in this spin off and keep getting let down worse each time. The narrator is all jacked up, his pace and tone are off, way too dramatic at times and makes simple statements seem like key plot points.
I keep thinking these will be better with the both original authors putting their stamp on it, but no it’s the weakest of the spin off series’ by far ( well minus that horrible free one about the the marine lady turned intel spook). I respect doc spears real world accomplishments, but holy Jesus there’s like 3 hours on an uneventful spaceship ride. It’s just a dragging slow story that talks about every tiny aspect of an operation and the plots are just boring. Also why is the 75 of the main dudes maxims or rules of war or whatever at the end? Is that just to ensure I don’t get the next book? Too easy, consider it done. I love this universe but can’t do this spinoff anymore

Just skip the first half
I love the series overall but this book has a very boring start that seems to be of little consequence to the story. In the final act of the book, things do pick up and I was more engaged but I was close to putting this one down at that point so it was mostly spoiled. I look forward to the next book but I hope it's not similar to this one.

Coming into it's stride.
While I mostly enjoyed the first Dark Operator, the Second one in the series had me wondering where this was all going and not that impressed.
NO FAIL changed my mind. Theres connecting bits and pieces now, hints and glimpses of more at work behind the scenes. It feels far more connected and worked into the GE universe than the first two books. Where the first two felt like your standard military special ops books with just a sci-fi flair, this one actually has the Galaxys Edge flair in it while keeping that grounded feel of the Doc Spears insite. The story has much more weight now and it doesn't feel like a one off this time
If you just finished Rebellion and wondering if you should continue with the series give No Fail a chance and I think (as long as your a fan of everything else in Galaxy's Edge) your in for a nice surprise.

Great story turned in to a technical manual...
I really want to like this, however once again the author takes a great story and weighs it down with so much technical detail it just drags out. Explain it once maybe twice but not every single time something happens to describe every last detail.
That being said once again the narrator delivers such a slow performance that I had to list at 1.15x to make it bearable. And a character whose name is "Big" shouldn't sound like a prepubesent teenager, but maybe that's just me.

Nothing to do with galaxies edge
Not sure why this is part of the galaxies edge series but literally this plot could be its own story. Characters and locales are only loosely affiliated with galaxies edge. So far this is the most disappointing book of the whole series.
