I thought early on in this novel that I had worked the entire plot out. I can’t comment on it too much or it would give the whole thing away. However there were quite a few twists and turns that totally blindsided me. Wasn’t sure how the implant of Sam Winter to Edinburgh would work but it surely did. I’m now going to start the second one No Time to Grieve. Nice one Ed.

Don’t think I’ve really jelled with Sam Winter, there were a lot of rushing about scenes and chasing of characters. The story itself was complex but a fair amount of ‘should have, could have, would have’ and then a sudden burst of truth.
Will have to try another to see if it’s just me!

A fantastic first, full outing for DI Sam Winter, with a complex case of kidnapping. A superbly written story that certainly tested my feelings between the rather unpleasant victims and the perpetrator of the kidnapping. more please Mr. James. Read by the one and only Angus King.
