About this listen

Nox is a Nightmare, literally. Having been around for eons, he’s decided it’s time to have some fun…wrecking lives, that is. So he hires himself out to get revenge on bad exes, which leads him to joining the Monster Match app. He doesn’t exactly care what the circumstances are—as long as he gets to have some fun scaring humans.

Cyrus moved to Rivenfield for a fresh start after a bad breakup. He just wants to keep his head down and work. Maybe meet a few monster cuties on Monster Match. He’s not expecting to click with someone so soon, but the mysterious Nightmare has him all hot and bothered awake and asleep.

After meeting Cyrus, Nox is flabbergasted why anyone would want to send a Nightmare after such a delightful human. He becomes determined to get to the bottom of this mystery. It looks like the cure for his eternal boredom might just be falling in love.

Nightmare for Hire is an opposites attract MM monster romance featuring a sunshiny Nightmare and a human just wanting to belong. It’s part of the Monster Match series. Each book is a standalone, but why don’t you have fun with all our monstrous beasties?

Reread as audiobook. Excellent narration and Nox was even more delightful narrated than he was reading the ebook.
Story - 4.5 stars. I loved Nox in the previous book in this series (His Primal Kiss), and he is even more special in his own story. A lovely contrast - a sweet Nightmare being and human Cyrus who has lived a lot of his life in a literal nightmare. Mick was awful and really deserved what happened to him. Great HEA.

Listening to Nightmare for Hire was an absolute delight—a mix of heartwarming fluff, emotional depth, and a touch of eerie charm. Nox, the sunshiny pastel-wearing Nightmare, and Cyrus, the grumpy goth human, make for an irresistible duo in this opposites-attract MM monster romance.

Nox is such a fascinating character—an immortal nightmare who should be terrifying but is instead infectiously enthusiastic and, at times, almost innocent in his human experiences. His demi representation adds another layer of depth, making his journey of connection even more meaningful. And then there’s Cyrus, whose backstory carries a weight of trauma that gives the story an unexpected emotional punch. While the romance is sweet and easy, much of the book focuses on Cyrus’s struggles, particularly with an abusive ex, which can feel a bit jarring in an otherwise cute and cozy monster romcom.

That being said, the balance between adorable and serious mostly works. The contrast of having a tiny, femme, skirt-wearing nightmare be the terrifying one in the relationship is just too fun to resist. While the book is lighthearted in many ways, it doesn’t shy away from tough topics—so definitely check the trigger warnings before diving in.

Overall, Nightmare for Hire is an entertaining and unique monster romance that blends fluff, depth, and a little bit of darkness. If you love a lovable, badass monster and a broken but resilient human finding solace in each other, this one’s worth a listen!

I have now listened to this one on audio and it's just as cute as I remember. Michael Ferraiuolo does a wonderful job narrating it and it just makes for an incredibly sweet and charming listen. Highly recommend.

This is my new favourite by Morgan Lysand! Nox is just the sweetest cutest Nightmare ever, and I adore him. Nox and Cyrus are amazing together and I just loved almost everything about this book. I adored Nox's relationship with his bestie Dani, who is nearly as fabulous as him, and immediately after finishing this I had to go and read Dani's book. Cyrus is a great character and I loved how focused Nox is on supporting him and making him happy. Also enjoyed the demi rep and Nox's discovery of sex. My only critique is that a few of the chapters near the end were annoyingly short and rushed, but this was a small problem and quickly mitigated by the lovely final chapters and epilogue. It is a beautiful romance and I would recommend to anyone.

lovely audio of a great book
