A excellent introduction to the Night Stalker Case

With the growing rise in popularity of the true-crime genre, primarily thanks to Netflix’s increased production of such programmes, it’s no surprise that true crime novels are being published left, right and centre. However, it can often be hard to know where to begin especially when you’re unfamiliar with certain serial killers or crimes.

Well, James Richmond’s true crime novel, Night Stalker, is a short yet terrifying account and introduction to Richard Ramirez, the Night Stalker. Richmond is unafraid to recount the gore of Ramirez’s crimes without overwhelming the reader or listener with too much information. Instead, Richmond’s approach to the Night Stalker case takes the reader right into the mind of a serial killer on the brink of being caught before unravelling his life from the beginning.

Paired with Aaron Smith’s narration, who is the perfect voice to narrate the events, it becomes an easy listen. Although, not one you’d like to listen to alone or while walking home at night as the details are genuinely unnerving.

Instead, Richmond and Smith paired together to create an atmospheric account of Ramierez’s life and the events that lead him to become the Night Stalker in a factual light. Moreover, Smith can take the matter of fact tone from Richmond’s writing and creating a chilling narration that acts as the perfect introduction to anyone new to the Night Stalker case.

Highly recommend this to anyone considering the Netflix series but want to have some understanding of the case before they delve much further.

Good Overview of the Ramirez Case

This was a good overview of Richard Ramirez, his upbringing and his crimes. Even though I’ve read several books about this case, I found that this audiobook had a few details that it could teach me. Recommended read for anyone interested in the Ramirez case.

Narration fit the material well.

Bone-chilling

Author James Richmond creates the perfect portrayal of one of America’s most infamous serial killers, Richard Ramirez, providing the reader with valuable insight of his upbringing and the reasoning behind his atrocious behavior.
With a lineal narration starting from his parents' backstory, the listener gets to witness the changes in Richards personality, from being a sweet boy to a troubled teenager to the violent satan-worshiping young man famous for the brutal treatment of his victims.

Narrated by Mr. Aaron Smith, this volume as an audiobook serves to double the scare factor. With the speaker's deep british accent and cryptic tone, listening to Night Stalker is reminiscent of listening to horror stories around a campfire.
The narration pace is perfect in regards to speed, and the speaker knows when to pause or speak up to accentuate the suspense of certain scenes. The reader's style certainly helped bring the story to life.

With a four hour duration, Night Stalker is a relatively short audiobook perfect for car rides, exercise, or simply chilling at home. The story flows perfectly and never drags on for too long as it mostly focuses on Richards most influential experiences as well as detailed descriptions of his gruesome methods for choosing and annihilating his victims.

This audiobook undoubtedly deserves five stars for its ingenious retelling of Richards story, capable of leaving anyone chilled to the bone, and fitting narrator who was able sweep me away into Richards world. It is a MUST LISTEN for every crime and mystery fan or, because of it’s fast-paced nature, perfect for anyone looking to assimilate into the genre. My most sincere kudos to the author and speaker!

Absolutely horrifying

Night Stalker Richard Ramirez captures the true story of one of America's most famous serial killers, Rickard Ramirez.
Born into a problematic lower class family, Richard was exposed to many hardships growing up; from absent parents and violence-prone siblings to traumatic experiences at the hands of murderous family members.
As he continued to grow, Richard became more and more reserved while exploring the world of drugs, petty theft and satanism.
Ramirez started murdering in L.A when he was 24 years old, leaving a trail of blood, rape and terror in his wake until he was finally caught in 1985 after a particularly gruesome killing spree.

Author James Richmon creates the perfect portrayal of sociopath Ramirez, providing the reader with valuable insight of his upbringing and the reasoning behind his atrocious behavior; in a way humanizing him without discarding his unforgivable crimes.
With a lineal narration starting from his parents' backstory, the listener gets to witness the changes in Richards personality, from being a sweet boy to a troubled teenager to the violent satan-worshiping young man famous for the brutal treatment of his victims.

A Sinister Satanist indeed . . .

This audiobook was verrry graphic and horrific! I found myself gasping Holy Cow! (similar words) I listened to this a SECOND TIME as well, since it was SO packed with details, that I wanted MORE! And it was just as fresh during that repeat listen! The narrator was excellent and easy to listen to! I liked him a lot. I was given this for free in exchange for my opinion - and I’m glad I gave this one a chance. I MIGHT have overlooked it due to its rather shortish length...but it’s really PACKED with information that makes up for that! You’ll probably find yourself listening to this one a second time too.
