About this listen
From Graeme Reynolds, the acclaimed author of the High Moor Trilogy, comes a lightning-paced supernatural thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Detective Jack Carlton thought he had hit rock bottom until an opportunity came knocking at his door. But what seems like a chance to redeem himself quickly turns into a dangerous game of survival. Trapped in a situation he can't escape, Jack must uncover the truth behind a brutal crime at King's College.
The evidence is impossible; the only witness is catatonic, and time is running out. As the night bleeds into dawn, Jack must confront the darkness lurking within the city's depths and within himself. Will he be able to solve the case and save those he holds dear? Or will he become another victim of the supernatural forces at play?
For fans of occult detective mysteries, supernatural suspense thrillers, British horror novels, demonic possession books, and novels such as The Dresden Files, the John Decker Series, and the Robert Hunter Series.

The audiobook production was really well done and the narrator Chris Barnes, did so well with the voice changes and the slight variation in accents!
As for the story, whilst it builds up slowly, I really enjoyed the greater focus on the characters at the beginning, giving the reader the context needed to understand their behaviours and relationships. And, I could honestly just read about Jack Carlton as he’s such a character! Beat down detective, down on his luck with nothing to lose, he’s got such a “don’t give a s**t” attitude, which it turns out is really a facade.
Apart from the great characters, I enjoyed the plot with gruesome scenes and a great supernatural mystery. The blend between mystery and supernatural is executed well, without risking being over the top.
For readers looking for some fun, yet engaging and gory supernatural British noir, I highly recommend this read! I’m now looking forward to the rest of the series!
Thanks to the author and FreeAudiobookCodes for the audiobook and this is my honest opinion.
