Summary

What happens when the number-one college hockey star in the country falls in love - with a man?

Nick Johnson, a top prospect for a pro hockey team, has a secret: He’s gay. Tired of living in the closet for the sport he loves, he sees no way out.

Jacob Meyer’s string of bad boyfriends left him cynical about love. Instead, he focuses on his studies as a third-year law student. With a new job waiting for him, he’s eager to graduate and move on.

On a school-sponsored trip, Nick and Jacob meet in a most unexpected way. When Nick tells Jacob his secret, they decide to hang out, just as friends. But their attraction is too strong to ignore, and they soon begin dating.

Since Nick is a big man on campus, it doesn’t take long for people to notice his attachment to Jacob. All hell breaks loose when the relationship gets out. As the national media descends, university officials try to figure out how to solve their “problem”.

Their efforts divide Nick’s team, inflame fans, and put Nick and Jacob’s futures in jeopardy. Will the men be able to survive a plot to destroy them without derailing both their careers?

Nice Catching You is an out-for-you romance featuring a lot of love, exciting hockey, and a beautiful holiday. There’s also plenty of steam and a very happy ending.

A captivating story and a great narration

I have already read some books by the authors Ryan Taylor and Joshua Harwood and was therefore very excited about this audio book, which I did not know as a book yet.
I love the authors' writing style because they write heartwarming, engaging, captivating and emotional.

Nick is the captain of the hockey team who has not come out yet. He's likeable and well-liked by his teammates. And he is the opposite of Jacob, a proud law student who is open about his sexuality.
The two first meet on a bus when it runs into trouble. Nick's protective instinct is immediately there and Jacob is intrigued by Nick as well. You could feel the sizzle between the two, who fall in love quickly, but the chemistry is palpable. I love it when a book is authentically told and I can connect with the characters.
Another plus was Jacob, who knows nothing about hockey. I found that very refreshing and it was fun to follow Jacob in the stands at his first hockey game.
Unfortunately, life isn't always easy and after Nick stands by his relationship with Jacob, the problems begin. Who will stand by him? Where do things go from here?
I enjoyed the story immensely. For one thing, there's the emotional and heartwarming relationship between the two, which is pretty hot at times. Also, Nice Catching You features great supporting characters - I love most of Nick's teammates and the way they relate to their captain.
It also deals with serious issues and difficult situations and this was told in an exciting way.
If you want to read a fascinating story about sports, friendship, team spirit, love and coming out, but also homophobia and people who love to make life difficult for others, you should definitely pick this one up.

Nick J. Russo is a talented storyteller who nailed the characters. I love how he brought the story to life. He is very good at portraying the emotions of the protagonists and it was a great pleasure to listen to his pleasant voice with all the different pitches, different voices and always a pleasant pace of narration. The almost 9 hours passed very quickly.

Highly recommended!

Really good!

4.5 Stars!!!

This was my first book by Ryan Taylor & Joshua Harwood, but I can assure you it won't be the last. I found their writing style refreshing and engaging and I really connected with the characters, which is always a plus.

Nick is a closeted hockey player, but make no mistake, he's not the kind of man who would hide his feelings when he finds the right man, which is something that I adored about him and made him my favorite of the two. Jacob is out and proud, and has zero clue as to what hockey is, which I could relate to, LOL. On paper, they should be polar opposites, and yet, they are just perfect for one another, complementing each other in the best of ways. Their chemistry was palpable and while they fall in love fairly quickly, it works well for them.

I also loved Blake, Kelly, Scotty, and most of their teammates, and I adored how they all backed their captain when he needed them. On the other hand, I absolutely hated Banks and Higgins, and unfortunately, could never warm up to Kayla, Jacob's BFF, who made me angry more than a few times.

The audiobook was captivating! Nick J. Russo is amazing and shines in books with younger (college-aged) characters and especially with a big cast of characters. He definitely did justice to Nick and Jacob and their story and made it even better for me.

Overall, I really enjoyed Nice Catching You, it was riveting and I really liked the hockey action, even if this Guatemalan girl hasn't seen a game in her life, hahaha. I loved Nick and Jacob and most of the supporting cast and I loved that the bad guys got their comeuppance in such an epic way! Definitely an audiobook I have no trouble recommending!

Great audio performance of a good story.

I enjoyed this book when I read it with my eyes but Nick J. Russo’s performance elevated it even higher.

I rarely have such strong emotional responses when listening to a book that I’ve already read but this book just about did me in. It’s a great coming out story and you don’t need to know anything about hockey to enjoy it.

This one melts the ice

When I learned that this amazing mm romance by one of my favorite authors would be released as an audiobook I could not wait to find out who would narrate it to bring it to an even higher level. I was pleasantly surprised when Nick J. Russo was the one. I can tell you he did an amazing job and the 8 hours+ went by before I knew it. I recommend it if you like a good story about hockey, love, friendship and hot scenes. The MC's Nick and Jacob find their hea.

Opposites attract and work together for a HEA

Nick J Russo brings great life to these characters, and the audio version enhances an already great story. Nick and Jacob go through a lot to be together, but they never waver, and the narrator really captures all of the emotions. This is one of my favorite series, and I'm excited that the same narrator will be bringing voice to the rest of the series. Can't recommend enough... listen for yourself.

Nice Catching You

4.5 Maple Leaf Review

Nice Catching You (Nice Catching You 1) by Ryan Taylor & Joshua Harwood
Narrated by Nick J. Russo

"𝘕𝘰 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘺 𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦."

An emotional journey about acceptance, growth, and heartwarming love.

On the way home from a school trip, Nick catches Jacob when he falls out of his seat when the bus skids off the road. Being forced to stay at a hotel overnight, Nick and Jacob share a room and being their friendship. The more time they spend together, the more Nick is ready to finally come out about his sexuality. Jacob is worried about what will happen and tries to get Nick to reconsider but Nick is determined to be true to himself so he can be the person he feels Jacob deserves.

I love Nick and Jacob. From their meet-cute on, they continued to win me over. The banter between the friendly teammates had a constant smile on my face and even had me laughing out loud at times. There were some characters that I did not particularly like, for obvious reasons, but I was glad to see everyone else not back down from their negativity.

These authors are still relatively new to me, as this is only my second book by them, but I am looking forward to reading more of their books.

Nick J. Russo did an amazing job of narrating that I felt like I was listening to a duet narration instead of a single narrator.

Nice Catching You is an mm, college, sports (hockey), jock/nerd, out-for-you romance told in the dual first-person point of view.

Ryan Taylor and Joshua Harwood have done it again. I absolutely loved this book. It’s a beautiful, heartwarming holiday story. This book grabbed my attention from the first page and I couldn’t put it down. Nick and Jacob battle challenges and difficult decisions together while working towards their HEA. This is such a wonderful book with a beautiful HEA. A definite must listen!

Enjoyable, Heartfelt, and Unforgettable

I fell in love with this book when it came out in 2020. Nick and Jacob are the kind of characters that don't just enter your life for the duration of the time it takes to read their story; they stay with you long after the story ends. Just thinking about their meet-cute or Jacob’s first hockey game has me grinning. I'm talking GOOFY grinning.

While this story will make you laugh and leave you swooning, it also has moments that will have you thinking and rooting for justice for our beloved duo. Don't get me wrong, this is a fun, feel-good romance, but it's more than that. We get to see second hand what happens when a gay man comes out in a sport that's not exactky gay-friendly yet. Even though it hasn't happened in real life (yet—hopefully soon) it's nice to see it happen in a world we choose to be a part of.

This book is the first book these authors wrote that centers around hockey, but it's quite evident their live for hockey didn't just begin. They have a fantastic way of writing the hockey scenes in a way any level can read it. In fact, I became a hockey fan AFTER reading two of their hockey books. Their love for hockey, and their eady way of explaining it, lured me in and now I'm hooked—on tv and in book. I can tell you I'm not the only person these authors have passed on their enjoyment for the sport to. Just come spend some time with us in their Facebook group, Ryan & Josh’s Room, and you'll see.

Nick J. Russo did an amazing job bringing this story to life. He has such a broad range of voices and is pleasant to listen to. None if the scenes are over the top with his narration. It's almost as if he BECOMES these characters and their emotions. He’s just such a great narrator.

I absolutely recommend this book, these authors and this narrator.
