Summary
FBI Evidence Response Team intern Chloe Fine, 27, finds herself forced to confront her own dark past when her troubled twin sister needs her help - and when a body turns up dead in her small, suburban town.
Chloe feels life is finally perfect as she moves back into her hometown and into a new house with her fiancé. Her career with the FBI looks promising, and her wedding is on the horizon.
But, she learns, all is not as it seems in suburbia. Chloe begins to see the underside - the gossip, the secrets, the lies - and she finds herself haunted by her own demons: her mother’s mysterious death when she was 10, and her father’s imprisonment.
And when a fresh body is found, Chloe soon realizes that her past, and this small town, might hold the key to solving both.
An emotionally wrought psychological suspense with layered characters, small-town ambiance, and heart-pounding suspense, Next Door is book number one in a riveting new series that will leave you listening late into the night.

Acceptable escape
This was an acceptable escapist book. The police and detecting work the main character works through as an FBI intern aren't entirely convincing but the author did a good job maintaining suspense throughout the story. I appreciated that the subject of mental health and therapy for trauma was included. The narrator brought me right inside of the head of the main character. My only critique of the narrator was her she lacked conviction in her cursing.

Aweful
I have never written a review on Audible, until today. The writing of this book, the characters vocabulary was so basic and robotic! It was almost like a grade schooler wrote it...it was painful to get throgh, none of it was suspenseful or interesting. Also, I am pretty sure FBI interns don't run investigations,

Interesting
I started reading this as a book, but finished as an audio book. I prefer reading but it was taking too long. I hated the narrator on the audio book. The story itself was interesting. They kind-of gave away some of the plot early in the story. Overall, it was OK, Not sure why it was called a psychological thriller.
