Summary

Reporter Colleen Caruso was never good at math.

A stingy ex-husband, a teenage daughter, and a rusted-out Ford Escort have multiplied her troubles. Tripping over a dead body while on her morning jog seems like another incident for the minus column.

But then her new editor at the newspaper gives her a regular column detailing the investigation. He's handsome, single, and just a bit mysterious. Suddenly, Colleen's life is on the plus side.

Unfortunately, one dead algebra teacher plus two secret affairs plus four suspicious suspects quickly adds up to three perilous "accidents" for Colleen.

Which means Colleen needs to come up with the solution to the murder…before the killer removes her from the equation.

Middle-Aged Madness

This is my first book by this author, Jo-Ann Lamon Reccoppa and really enjoyed it. In this book we are introduced to Jersey Girl, Colleen Caruso, a forty something mother of teenage children with a philandering ex-husband whose life just is not going well. While running on a path through the woods, she literally trips over the dead body of a local math teacher. Between being a suspect, managing her smart alecky teenage daughter who is failing the math class taught by the dead teacher, trying to manage after her husband’s desertion, and working at her job as a reporter at the local newspaper, Colleen is struggling just to keep her head above water. While investigating the murder of the teacher for her news column, Colleen becomes embroiled in a twisty tale of infidelity and more. A dash of potential romance with the paper editor emerges.

This was a fun book to listen to. I appreciated having a more mature heroine at the center of the story. The Jersey setting offered its’ own flavor from character accents, done well by Meghan Kelly, to the periodic Jersey references. The murder mystery was well developed with plenty of twists and red herrings. Colleen is a likeable and empathetic character. I look forward to seeing how she is developed in future books.

Meghan Kelly did an excellent job narrating the story. Her pace was good and her voice was pleasant to listen to.

I recommend this book for those who like the Stephanie Plum mysteries.

Hilarious “who done it “

I found this book absolutely hilarious. What a fantastic combination of Jo-ann and Meghan.
They have both really bought so much humour to this book that I feel is absolutely needed in the world at the moment.

Good Listen

This is a very good Cozy mystery. It is well paced and there is plenty going on to keep you entertained. Coleen is a likeable character who gets herself in all sorts of trouble, often humorous and unbelievable she of course triumphs at the end. Plenty of suspects for you to try and eliminate and keeps you guessing to the very end. Excellent read. Meghan Kelly is a very good narrator and makes the book even more entertaining with her plethera of different voices. Highly recommended.
I was given this book by the narrator and leave the voluntary and honest review.

FUN,ENTERTAINING AND CLEAN MYSTERY

Megan Kelly really brings life to these well written words with the narration and the characters are so real they could be someone you know. Collen has determination in spades, good friends, outspoken mother and great teenage daughter but lets not speak about the EX husband. The scene in the Escort was so life like I think I was holding my breath. I like Coleen's humour and manner of speaking, very enjoyable read/Listen. Recommended

Really entertaining cozy mystery

A really good cozy mystery. I loved the story, the dialogue and the attitude. Colleen a divorced mother of two. klutz and freelance fluff piece reporter's life takes a turn with she trips over the body of a teacher on her morning jog and her editor asks her to look into the case. Some excellent twists and turns as the case develops and with several good suspects, the story works really well. The characters are excellent, the story well written and Meghan Kelly as a narrator is a great choice bringing the characters to life. I received a complimentary copy of the audio from the narrator and am leaving a honest voluntary review

Simple maths equals a good mystery

I enjoyed this book. The story is nicely balanced with home life drama, a cheating husband who has left her penniless for a younger woman, no romance but with two very helpful men in her life I don't think it will be long and mystery exploits as the killer tries to stop her from investigating. This worked well making it an entertaining story. The mystery was good with plenty of suspects and motives, I was still trying to decide who it was when it was revealed. I liked the characters. Colleen found herself in some funny and often dangerous situation which added humour to the plot. A good start to a new series and from a new to me author, one I would visit again.
After her husband left her and her two children, Colleen decides to get her life back on track by taking up jogging. Unfortunately finding her daughters algebra teacher dead on the path isn't the right way to go, especially as her daughter is failing his class. On the plus side her new boss at the paper wants her to cover the story as an eye witness. Colleen jumps at the chance to stop writing fluff pieces and to bring in more money for her family. But by doing so she learns the man wasn't the good guy he seemed to be and some of his secrets will get somebody close to her in trouble. Also put her life on the line. Colleen will have to find the reason for his murder if she wants to stop her friend from going to jail, keep her better paying job and more importantly stay alive.
I liked the narrator. She did a good job with the voices, which helped make the story come to life.
