Summary

From a course they created for professionals, Mark Waldman and Chris Manning adapted their lectures and present simple brain exercises, based on the latest neuroscience research, to guide listeners on what makes us happy, wealthy, and wise.

The promise of their original class - and now of this book - is to help people create more "wealth" in their lives, defined as the combination of money, happiness, and success. The book presents both the scientific background and sets of NeuroWisdom exercises that will help everyone transform their environment into a more meaningful and enjoyable place. By spending just a few minutes each day, these exercises reduce neurological stress and increase happiness, motivation, and productivity. The "worry" centers of the brain are turned off and the optimism circuits are turned on. Work becomes more pleasurable and creativity is increased, enabling the brain to anticipate and solve problems more efficiently.

Great Advice

Waldman and Manning have published a fine book on mindfulness for those who have yet to discover the art of self awareness.

In fairness, this book has a wealth of advice deserving of 5 stars, however I found much of the advice as borrowed and repackaged.

Incredible.

Masterfully written.

This book will and can change your life; but only if you let it.

It is full of the known and unknowns, what needs to be said and what doesn’t. It will frustrate a few, anger some and calm many. The many is and are the type of people this book was intended for.

It’s very simple.

Wise words

Really enjoyed this book. Great combination of practical exercise and experiment based on sound theory and research. Clearly read and presented. Lots of material I have come across before, decades ago but now well framed within neuroscience principles and concepts.
I think the real value of the book is down to the reader - if you don’t practice what is described you will see no difference. I’m tempted to buy a paper copy, yes, it was THAT good!

This book is a game changer

I found here the bits missed by other authors who were my gurus for years, for example, Brian Tracy. He mentioned many times writing down the goals but didn't say anything about doing the same with potential obstacles and ways of dealing with them. A brilliant book worth much more than 1 credit on Audiable!

Wishful thinking doesn't make it so

I have a pet hate of pseudoscience masquerading as actual science but that is the territory I have to place this book in.
With vague references to research and researchers, nothing here is truly backed up by anything other than the authority of the authors and anecdotal evidence.
If you like new age woo then this should be perfect for you but if you have an ounce of scepticism, you may struggle as I did.
Sadly, I fear the same thing happening with neuroscience as happened with quantum physics where unscientific people are trying to place unscientific ideas on the same level as actual science and well researched and tested ideas.
There's enough there to appear credible but not enough to convince this skeptic.
