About this listen

THE FIRST NOVEL IN THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING IN DEATH SERIES

It is 2058, New York City. Technology now completely rules the world, but for New York Detective Eve Dallas, one irresistible impulse still rules the heart: passion...

Eve Dallas is a New York police lieutenant hunting for a ruthless killer. In over ten years on the force, she’s seen it all - and knows her survival depends on her instincts. And she’s going against every warning telling her not to get involved with Roarke, an Irish billionaire - and a suspect in Eve’s murder investigation. But passion and seduction have rules of their own, and it’s up to Eve to take a chance in the arms of a man she knows nothing about - except the addictive hunger of needing his touch.

Eve Dallas is the 'Jack Reacher' of the 21st Century, and I'm completely hooked on this series. This series is full of life, and Eve has the right kind of attitude for a 'kick-ass New York cop'.

Normally my wife is badly allergic to cliches, but for some reason the 'In Death' series carries off the occasional cliche with great aplomb and humour, and we both thoroughly enjoy the series.

The start of a great series

Loved the book and the reading but I have one quibble.
Susan Ericksen, who's doing the reading, can't do an Irish accent. It's the same accent she used for Pitte in the Key trilogy and he was of indeterminate Irish/Welsh/God origin and although I can cope with it, it does make me cringe. I'm not looking forward to the books in which Roark and Eve head to Dublin :)

Big fan of the books - really enjoyed the reading

I love these books. The characterisation of all the people in these books is excellent.

Would you listen to Naked in Death: In Death, Book 1 again? Why?

Yes, I feel like listening to it again right now. I miss the characters already. Eve Dallas's character is so vulnerable yet strong and Roarke is just brilliant.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favourite character is Roarke. Who wouldn't want a guy like that.

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

She brings the character to life. I wasn't too sure about the Irish accent at first but I got used to it and it was easy to tell the difference between the characters.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes there was a scene that I found very powerful just after Eve had to go to testing. I won't spoil it by elaborating but you could feel the mood. Also the sex scene was extremely good.

Any additional comments?

I don't know whether to re listen to this one or go straight onto the second one but I'm hooked.

This book is so good

If you could sum up Naked in Death: In Death, Book 1 in three words, what would they be?

Insatiable appetite

What did you like best about this story?

Set in a slightly futuristic world

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances? How does this one compare?

N/A

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Eva's own history

Any additional comments?

I couldn't stop listening. I enjoyed the slightly futuristic side of it and I loved the main characters, she really brought them to life for me. I did like the passionate moments. It may not be to everyone's taste but if you like a strong female lead, with a hard background story, then this might be for you

Couldn't put it down
