At exactly 7:30 p.m., Walter Pettibone arrived home to over a hundred friends and family shouting, "surprise!" It was his birthday. Although he had known about the planned event for weeks, the real surprise was yet to come. At 8:45 p.m., a woman with emerald eyes and red hair handed him a glass of champagne. One sip of birthday bubbly, and he was dead.

The woman's name is Julie Dockport. No one at the party knew who she was. But Detective Eve Dallas remembers her all too well. Eve was personally responsible for her incarceration nearly ten years ago. And now, let out on good behavior, she still has nothing but bad intentions. It appears she wants to meet Dallas again - in a reunion neither will forget...

Released on "good behaviour" Juliana proves it was all an act, she has not been rehabilitated in any way. She has spent the last ten years plotting and planning to make Eve pay, so obviously Roarke has to be her ultimate target...after she has removed a few other men first to get Eve's attention!
This is a brutal and deadly fight to the end, Juliana may win some of the battles, but Eve is determined she will win the war....no matter how many blows she takes, how many bruises, concussions or terrifying flights with Roarke, She. Will. Win. The. War!
It is Eve and Roarke's second anniversary during this investigation amd we are once again reminded of the whitlwind that their relationship was, the deep love and ultimate respect they have for each other - once they have had a heated discussion with plenty of verbal sparring, they finally agree and make up with plenty of steamy sex...again and again. They may argue, very explosively sometimes, but you cannot doubt the love or respect they have for each other.
Peabody is once again hilarious with her dry wit, she also leads her first solo investigation, sucessfully, and her parting words when they finally arrest Juliana say everything we are thinking, she tells Eve "You're my God". Even Roarke struggles to put it better.
A fantastic listen on Audible.
