About this listen
Lady Jane Brooke sought shelter when her coach broke down, and found herself at the Earl of Wintringham’s estate. Trying to conceal her identity, she introduced herself as a governess. Lord Winter, as the apparently cold earl was called, thawed in response to the delightful Miss Brooke, but she knew he would never approve of her deception.
Regency romance by Carola Dunn; originally published by Harlequin.

The novel has been a joy to read since 1992 and it is now a joy to listen to, as an audiobook. This is due, in no small part, to the excellent reading by Tara Kaye. Ms. Kaye’s delivery is marvellous – clear yet engaging – and she excels with her characterisations. Each of the characters, from the haughty Lord Wintringham to the impish Jane and the various representatives of the ‘lower orders’, is depicted with precision and warmth.
A standout historical romance

please please please do NOT ask her to narrate any more of your lovely books. I have waited so long for M's Dunn's Regency books to be on audible and this happens - heart breaking.
the irritating voice of the narrator

It is a fun story and has fewer annoying anachronisms than many such romances. However the storyline of the heroine keeping a secret from the hero just gets strung out for way too long. Also the ending is abrupt- I would have liked some reactions from other characters to the denouement- an epilogue would have been nice.
The narrator is not great. She fails to create enough differences between the characters' voices. Often I was confused about which character was speaking.
Enjoyable though very thin plot! Poor Narrator.
