About this listen

Winner of the British Book Awards, Biography of the Year, 2005.

President Bill Clinton's My Life is the strikingly candid portrait of a global leader who decided in early life to devote his intellectual and political gifts, and his extraordinary capacity for hard work, to serving the public. It is the fullest, most concretely detailed, most nuanced account of a presidency ever written, and a testament to the positive impact on America and on the world of his work and his ideals. Here is the life of a great national and international figure, revealed with all his talents and contradictions. Filled with fascinating moments and insights, it is told openly, directly, in President Clinton's completely recognizable voice.

Too much of the book seems to be Clinton giving his side of the story on the big ‘scandals’ (Whitewater, Lewinsky) and insufficient insights into the big public policy and geo-political issues occurring at the time.

Disappointing.

I listens to this book mostly while travelling by train from France to England. My biggest complaint was that President Clintons soothing southern voice soon left me catching Zzzzz's.

I persevered though, re listening to certain chapters and found it a fascinating insight into the man. I was particularly enthralled to hear the sad tale about his father dying before he was born, his tough upbringing and his time in Oxford.

I would have liked to hear more of the Oxford tutor who referenced "king of some province and two dogs" (or something similar).

Great book.

I found this book interesting and imagine that anyone with an interest in politics would also do. It is slightly overlong, and the first half seems particularly slow-going. It becomes a more interesting narrative in the second half once Clinton has entered politics.

There are some slightly "cheesy" lines, as all autobiographies do to some extent, which I questioned whether they were really felt at the time or added for increased effect upon the reflection of the author on his life ("I sometimes question the sanity of my existence", "a man is more than the sum of the things he can do" etc).

But overall an interesting insight into the life of a very succesful and powerful man and the office of the presidency.

Slightly overlong but interesting

Was optimistic to begin, but enjoyed it all, more special with author reading his own book. Hilary for President next?

Would have preferred the full version but I imagine the compression is due to it being released on CDs but what's available is enjoyable.
