About this listen

An utterly gripping psychological thriller with a jaw-dropping twist

My little girl has vanished. And I can’t tell anyone…

My nine-year-old daughter Hollie should be leaving school smiling and laughing with all the other children but she’s not here. I run frantically, checking everywhere, my voice growing louder, but I can’t see her bright blue eyes and heart-shaped face anywhere. Pure panic washes over me. This is my worst nightmare.

Her teacher asks me if she should call the police. My heart stops. I shake my head and pretend I’ve made a mistake. I see a look of suspicion creep into the teacher’s eyes. But the police can’t know. No one can. My hands shake as I realise I’m completely on my own.

I know in my gut my daughter hasn’t just wandered off. She’s been taken. Someone must know the truth about my past…

I’ve spent so long protecting Hollie, but I always knew this day might come. And I’ll stop at nothing to get my little girl back.

An absolutely nail-biting, addictive psychological thriller novel from multi-million-copy, bestselling author JD Kirk. This book is sooooo fast-paced! For anyone who loves Freida McFadden, John Marrs and T.M. Logan.

As a big fan of JD Kirk I tried my best to like this, but I just couldn’t. Far too unbelievable, with characters who had little personality and a child at the centre who you knew nothing about. Sorry but it was a big no from me this time.

Stayed with it to the end.

Story clever if a little challenging to keep up with
the wistful breathy dreamy affectation on the narrator lapses into so annoying - inc Diana sometimes and yet her other characters well acted and varied and skillfully performed with exception of the Scottish accents.

The story

Another good tale from JD Kirk, full of twists and turns, keeping the mind questioning and drawing conclusions... a gripping story.

JD Kirk always stretches the bounds of reality but his characters normally match that sense of fantasy mixed with reality. This time I just didnt get it was disappointed.

Not the best felt rushed

Completely different from other J D Kirk books, and I think that’s why I didn’t take to this book as immediately as others, but was nonetheless hooked after a while.

The main character is not endearing, and that can be a challenge for the reader/listener. In this way, it reminds me of how I initially responded to another of JD Kirk’s characters, Heather Filson. While I wasn’t fond of the character of Elizabeth, I was more & more drawn to her predicament throughout the book, even finding sympathy for her along the way.

I enjoyed the twists & turns, the dark humour & the originality of this book.

Unexpected, original & gripping!
