Summary

Meg Langslow and her boyfriend, Michael, are searching for some romantic alone time. She knows the perfect place for a private getaway: her aunt's cottage on the tiny island of Monhegan. But when a series of events leads to the couple being trapped in the cottage with her entire family, their private getaway vacation slowly turns into a disaster.

Meg doesn't think anything more could go wrong until a resident of the island with close ties to her mother is murdered. When her father becomes the chief suspect, she knows she can no longer sit by the cozy fireplace. In a dash to save her father and her weekend, Meg finds herself knee deep in murder once again.

Made me laugh several times!

Love the characters in this! Meg's parents, especially her father, were just hilarious. A great feel good mystery that is clean and light. Already searching out my next Donna Andrews mystery!

I loved it!

Very entertaining, characters are well developed. The story is funny and the setting is described in a way that one can picture things well. I enjoyed it.

Fair to Middling

In my experience, a wonderful book will shine through, despite possible poor narration. Or the reverse, an amazing narrator can breathe life into a mediocre book. In this case, neither happens, and it results in a fair book, with tolerable narration. The author has some clever ideas, but has the characters acting so silly, making such implausible decisions, that I feel myself sighing during much of it. That said, I generally like cozies, and this is one that I can run in background. I’ll most likely listen to another. It is not a book I stay glued to—don’t think I could.

God underholdning!

Forfatteren er utrolig flink til å skape interessante, gjenkjennbare karakterer. Hun forteller historien med en stor dose humor.

Hysterical puns, but too arch

I found the arch tone of the narrator irritating and it over-emphasized my least favorite aspect of the writing of this ultra-cozy mystery.

Finally got this earlier book as audio worth it

I read this as a paperback book some years ago. Glad it finally came out as an audio book. Already listened to it twice. Different setting than most of this series, but still the same fun and wacky people.

A hurricane in Maine!

situational-humor, family-dynamics, murder-investigation, amateur-sleuth, women-sleuths

The sleuthing isn't bad, but the super funny situational humor really made my day! The characters certainly are! Somehow I missed this one entirely even though I have read several of the more recent ones. Going to hunt up more of the series now.
