About this listen

Posie Parker is invited to a sun-drenched wedding in Tuscany, but when a murderer strikes she takes on her deadliest case yet…

March, 1925.

Pregnant, bored of London, and longing for an adventure, Posie Parker accepts a last-minute Wedding Invitation from a friend, the renowned clairvoyant Jacinta Glaysayer, who has set up a small Guesthouse in the gorgeous hilltop town of San Gimignano, Tuscany. Jacinta is getting married to the local owner of a Gelateria, ambitious young widower Lorenzo Rosario. Sounds like a dream!

But what Posie - and her husband, Scotland Yard Chief Commissioner Richard Lovelace - arrive into is not a dream at all. Posie finds a disconcerting group of wedding guests: Lady Tony Harewood, a quiet girl who nevertheless seems destined for great things; Roberta Grimaldi, the resentful cousin of Lorenzo’s first wife; Charlie Seego, a man who looks too good to be true, and the famously disgraced Member of Parliament, Simon Deverine. When Jacinta confides uneasily to Posie that she keeps receiving a tarot card foretelling her own death, and that Lorenzo is angrily dismissive of her fears, Posie is aghast. Posie suspects that Lorenzo is finding comfort in the arms of another girl, but if so, why does he really want to marry Jacinta?

Amid the unease, cases of poisoning start up, first at the Gelateria, and then at the Guesthouse, and then a famous and uninvited guest makes her dramatic, deadly entrance at an unforgettable pre-wedding dinner. As the band plays and the ice-cream melts, the electricity suddenly fails and an ingenious murderer strikes again and again...

Can they uncover the murderer before others die? Or will the truth come at a terrible price?

another fab Posey parker installment

Very evocative of San Gimignano. Easy to imagine the place in the 1920’s. Claire Wille’s a good narrator, with just a few mispronunciations. She does a good job with the various characters’ voices.

More twists than a pretzel

I have been reading the Posie Parker series in book format since the first was released and love them. This is the first of the series that I have enjoyed through audio book format. The story itself may be my favourite one yet, such a good mystery while also being easy to enjoy. The narrator was very good. But I confess that I have to get used to her voice as it obviously is not how I imagined Posie or any of the other character's voices in the previous books. I am looking forward to listening the next in the series.

Brilliant. I so enjoyed it.

I enjoyed this much more than I expected. Good story, good narration. An effortless, pleasant, civilised crime novel.

This murder mystery has more good guy that are bad guys, and bad guys that are good guys than any other I have listened to in a long time, just brilliant. Read brilliantly again by Clare Wille.
