About this listen

A 1920s Christmas Country House Murder Mystery, an uplifting festive listen

Downton Abbey meets Agatha Christie with a touch of Wodehouse and a dog of distinction.

Book 1 in the Heathcliff Lennox series

It's 1920 and Christmas is coming. Major Lennox finds a body on his doorstep — why on his doorstep? Was it to do with the Countess? Was it about the ruby necklace? Lennox goes to Melrose Court, home to his uncle, Lord Melrose, to uncover the mystery. But then the murders begin and it snows and it all becomes very complicated....

Major Heathcliff Lennox — ex WW1 war pilot, 6feet 3inch, tousled dark blond hair, age around 30 – named after the hero of Wuthering Heights by his romantically minded mother – much to his great annoyance.

Old fashioned who dunnit, that is not so convoluted that you cannot work out who! I Enjoyed the light heartedness, the orators voice is perfect for this story.

It is fun

A nostalgic setting of the 1920s Cotswolds when winters had snow and Chelsea tractors were not a thing. The country house settings together with vivid descriptions of hearty food add to the atmosphere. The story is enchantingly narrated in a radio drama style completes the enjoyment. The plot is clever and doesn’t drag. I have read the whole series and this Audible version brings the books to life. Curl up, snuggle down and enjoy the escapism.

Cosy detective story

I have listened to this three times now because I simply love it. The narration is excellent- beautifully voiced and giving a really good place from which to imagine all the characters.
The story is superb if you like 1920s murder mysteries which I do.
An excellent listen all round.

Excellently read and a great story.
