I’m not sure if it’s the way the story was written or the narrator (maybe a bit of both) but there’s some very extended pauses in the story that confuse who (out of the characters) is talking. There’s also a side story of the ex-detective meeting an extremely unprofessional female GP (while a patient) and starting a relationship with her, this adds nothing to the plot. The main plot is okay but a little obvious, you definitely don’t have to be Hercule Poirot to work it out! Overall not the most likeable characters, limited plot line and I never really warned to the narration.

Found the narrator's voice quite harsh but that's maybe just me and other folk might like it. However, her sense of timing whilst reading was awful or perhaps the author was bad at punctuation. Pity as her voice characterisations were quite good. I gave up listening as it just became so tiring with those long, long flat sentences just full of words!!! I'm spoiled as I listen and relisten to Ann Granger's crime stories read by a lady called Judith Boyd. I've yet to find another narrator who can match Ms Boyd.

Story not too bad but the narrator almost sent me to sleep. There was also a strange habit of the dialogue repeatedly including the name of who was being spoken to which sounded forced and started to really grate in the end.

i have to agree with everyone else here that the narration was really odd. It felt weird to hear a like of dialogue and have "he uttered" after it.. because we're supposed to be able to hear the verb in how its narrated and it totally took me out of the story at points. As well as the long pauses and lack of consistent speed/tone.

The main character is also just awfully unlikeable and isn't well written. He has barely any thoughts outside ot the case and has very little motivations other than "im bored and curious". He doesn't seem to care about anyone else around him and is very self centered - or at the very least, the writing is very centered around him and just dashes about everyone else.

The story is also just obvious, considering the prologue basically spoils everything and so you end up with no motivation yourself to continue reading the story since there's barely any mystery!

I think each of these issues on their own would be fine but all of it added together meant i had to DNF this book
