Summary

Susan Wiles is blissfully retired from her career as a music teacher. What a joy to be able to attend the holiday concert without worrying about how her chorus will perform. But wait. Where's the principal? Susan offers to check, only to find the principal lying dead on her office floor. Of course, now that she's retired, she has time to help the local police (one of whom is her daughter) solve the mysterious crime. Did the principal die of natural causes?

The bruise on her face doesn't seem severe enough to be fatal. What about that funfetti cupcake sitting on her desk? Could she have been poisoned? Susan has just found the perfect retirement activity, much to her daughter's chagrin. And when the principal's teenage daughter, one of Susan's all time favorite students, asks for help - how can she say no? Little does she realize that this crime will take her far from the schoolhouse doors, as she investigates a mystery that extends back into one family's painful past.

Murder is elementary my dear

I enjoyed this book. The story is told by several characters as the story unfolds. The detectives investigating the murder, the retired school teacher turned sleuth, the suspects and even the murdered victims daughter but this works well because with so many suspects you got a little bit insight into there lives. I had guessed the killer and a possible motive but the author still managed a twist and a clue that totally passed me by. The story was entertaining and held my attention until the very end, trying to work things out. I nice clean fun cozy mystery that has it all and is a great start for a new series.
Susan Wiles is a retired school teacher but she can't help but go back, when the school she used to teach at puts on there Christmas concert. The show isn't as imaginative as she herself would have liked but the murder of the principal Vicky sure is. Lynette her daughter is the detectives assigned the case and even she is puzzled over the course of death, a bruise on her face shouldn't have been enough to kill her. Susan is close to Vicky's daughter and when it looks like there is only two suspects, a disgruntled parent and her soon to be ex husband who she had a restraining order against, Vicky daughter begs Susan to help clear her father's name because even she can see his actions make him look suspicious. Then Vicky's phone is found and the autopsy results come in and change everything, the principal isn't as squeaky clean as she appeared. Can Susan help find the killer? Was it one of her boyfriends? An upset parent? Or even a family member?
I did like the narrator as she did some very interesting voices but not sure the police man should have sounded like a surfer or Susan should have had such a strong accent.
