About this listen

There are new residents in the Long Island Sound… and they have a taste for flesh. The first time the creatures tasted human blood, their savagery went undetected. Thus begins Mount Misery, a terrific horror tale by writer Angelo Peluso. Located on the Long Island Sound, random attacks by unknown creatures are terrorizing local residents. The question: Who is going to do something about it? Marine biologist Katie DiNardo and ichthyologist Nick Tanner have seen the damage caused by their mystery creatures, but are at a complete loss as to the attacking species. All they know is that they need to get to the bottom of this - and fast. While they continue to do their research, people are dropping like flies, and if they don’t figure out what’s going on, there’s no saying what this destructive species will do next.

In a similar style to Jaws, Mount Misery is a spectacular suspense novel that grips you from the first page and doesn’t let its teeth out! Fans of horror will rejoice with Mount Misery, and listeners will enjoy the throwback style that made this genre what it is today.

Decent enough. Enjoyed it for the most part and was pleasantly surprised as wasn't expecting a lot of anything from a random choice.

Good narration too!

Solid housework listening.

Well not a lot really, if you take out the soft sex sections there would be a few chapters of the fishy storyline. The story could have been a good one, but the narrator was hopeless. This is the third book I have listened too by this narrator and I will now give any other books a miss!!

Something fishy going on?

I've never really understood the 'horror' of sea-monsters - just don't go swimming.... but that aside, I did quite enjoy this in a wincing kind of way. It hits all the classic horror story marks, gore, death, the obligatory sex scene and the triumph in the end of good over evil. And lazy ending?? Ohhh yes. Quite enjoyably dreadful. Also the narrator was fairly decent in a robotic sort of way. Slept through some of it I have to admit but I don't feel I missed anything.

So bad it's (almost) good.

The erratic standard of the narration is quite off putting it fluctuates from silky smooth femininity to robotic and stilted. The dialogue needs work too. As for Rick, he has the survival instincts of a giant panda. I’ve never wanted a good guy character to become fish food as much. Overall though I enjoyed it.

The basic plot is Compelling .

Fantastic story that is a little slow to warm up but then real hard to put down! Shares some of the usual tropes with other, similar stories but not to a distracting degree.
I never take monster horror all that seriously, this story was entertaining and thrilling and I would listen to it again.
Narration was excellent, again a bit slow to get going but soon had me hooked.
Only negative I can say is you do have to swim through a LOT of detailed technical explanation at the start, which is what slows things down. Once you are through that, buckle up!

Great Monster Romp
