Summary

On the banks of the river Thames a new building is being completed. A stunning creation of glass and concrete that will be a new landmark on London's skyline. The only problem is that people are dying because of it. Dozens of mysterious accidents have claimed lives during the construction of the Crystal Tower.

The owner, an enigmatic Russian businessman, has links to the site reaching back to the 1930s. Is he hiding a dark secret of unstoppable force and malevolence, created by one of his ancestors?

Something evil has been reawakened and no one can stop it.

Born and brought up in Hertfordshire, Shaun Hutson now lives and writes in Buckinghamshire where he has lived since 1986. He has since written over 30 bestselling novels as well as writing for radio, magazines and television.

Shaun has also written exclusively for the Internet, a short story entitled Red Stuff and an interactive story, Savages.

Having made his name as a horror author with bestsellers such as Spawn, Errbus, Relics and Death Day (acquiring the nicknames 'The Godfather of Gore' and 'The Shakespeare of Gore' in the process) he has since produced a number of very dark urban thrillers such as Lucy's Child, Stolen Angels, White Ghost and Purity.

At one time, Shaun Hutson was published under no fewer than six pseudonyms , writing everything from Westerns to non-fiction.

Nice to have you back on form Mr Hutson!

I have read every book that Shaun Hutwon has read and just recently, in my opionion, I thought he had gone down hill a little. The Hammer Books (although i'm sure he was happy with them), didnt really do it for me.
BUT I am pleased to say that this was just brilliant! Back on form and sounding great! Monolith is a great tale of horror that I had come to expect from Hutson books and I would happily read more from him like this.
Great listen!

Good story

Excellent story. Keeps you gripped throughout. My only negative is size and height of the assassin - not too much detail don't want to be a spoiler! - doesn't quite work in the various settings

so many questions

brilliantly performed and read. I've long been a Shaun Hutson fan. This is my first audible book of his, won't be my last.

However I still have so many questions and it seems like the many were forgotten about towards the end, won't risk spoilers though.

The performance by Ben Onwukwe is fantastic, if Oscar's were given for audio-books Ben would deserve one.

Overall a very enjoyable 10 hours.

This was brilliant - I loved every word

What was one of the most memorable moments of Monolith?

Com on now audible, spoiler Central or what!

What about Ben Onwukwe’s performance did you like?

Onwukwe is fast becoming my one of my top narrators. His performance in monolith was even better than Wolves of London, another audiobook I would recommend.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed listening to this; it has great characters, performed superbly by the narrator and a refreshingly different storyline that just got better and better throughout the book.

This story will keep you guessing, as it is a classic modern detective type crime and sci fi ish novel. It's hard to pin point it's exact genre which is what made it so great to listen to. Russian gangsters, mythical golem statues and a hot leading lady: Monolith is refreshing and great fun to listen to. The narrators performance adds to the great storyline and makes listening to it a real treat.

I urge you to buy this audiobook.

Disappointing

Predictable story line with some really unlikely day to day occurrences. Characters that were uninteresting, and honestly wish the lift had got them all in the first half hour then I would not have had to listen to the ridiculous accents the reader experimented with especially towards the end where the Russian/Eastern European accent was a mix of the meercats from the insurance advert and 'allo allo' French ! What an awful reader and what a poor story from a usually good author.

Disappointing

Would you try another book written by Shaun Hutson or narrated by Ben Onwukwe?

No the story finished with unanswered questions as if the author had got bored of writing it and had gone for a quick finish.

Has Monolith put you off other books in this genre?

No
