About this listen

Twenty-four-year-old Catherine Fellingham keeps a low profile - in society and in her family. A practical young woman, she leaves the spotlight to her beautiful younger sister and prefers quiet pursuits such as reading. But all that changes the moment she learns of her mother’s very excellent scheme to keep the family out of debtors’ prison. The scatter-brained Lady Fellingham has been selling commissions in the king’s army, and Catherine must shake off her indifference in order to save her family from a potentially ruinous scandal. Lady Arabella, her mother’s partner-in-crime, readily agrees to abandon the plan but only because she finds a more absorbing project: nabbing a husband for Catherine.

Catherine pays no head to her ladyship’s lavish claim that she’ll have her engaged by the end of the season, but that’s before she overhears Arabella instructing the handsome nonpareil, the Marquess of Deverill, to flirt outrageously with her and bring her into fashion. Mortified, Catherine resolves not to be taken in by the charming marquess's cruel game - and even implements a very excellent scheme of her own. This sensible young lady seems to have everything well in hand. Or is she about to learn that her heart is a great deal less practical than her head?

This book has everything one could possibly want in a Regency Romance: wonderful characters, an exciting plot, delicious misunderstandings and schemes, an entertaining romance and a brilliant narrator (Jill Smith). I loved it!

Fantastic book!

Misunderstandings abound and I lost patience with the heroine. The narrator did well with mediocre material. Not my favourite Lynn Messina.

All in all I enjoyed the book very much, and preferred it to the previous ones in the series, though I'm not quite sure how this connects to the other books.
The narration was excellent. The different voices of different characters really gave depth to the characters. Speaking of characterisation, I enjoyed Catherine very much, and found many characters to be multidimensional.
The only negative thing I will say, is that the start is a bit repetive, and Catherine a bit annoying, but once I got over the beginning I enjoyed the book very much.

excellent narration

One of those romances where its all misunderstandings. They came together last 5 minutes of the book then it's over, not even an epiloge. The heroine character is all over the place. She is portrayed as the one that sorts out their messes but then as one that is always forgotten by the family. She is timid and rarely speaks but then again they are afraid to tell her of the family predicament as they are afraid of her reaction. She reads a lot and is knowledgeable in an array of subjects but then has no idea how much servants in her own house are paid

Awful
