A strong understanding of self-worth is crucial to living an authentic and fulfilling life, yet so many of us have lost that sense of who we truly are and what we are worthy of. On the surface, this may look like low confidence, imposter syndrome, chronic busy-ness, exhaustion, overwhelm, fear or anxiety, but at the core, it's low self-worth.

Story
This is not a parenting manual. This is real life. The Unmumsy Mum writes candidly about motherhood like it really is: the messy, maddening, hilarious reality; how there is no 'one size fits all' approach; and how it is sometimes absolutely fine to not know what you are doing. The lessons she's learnt while grappling with two small boys - from birth to teething, three a.m. night feeds to toddler tantrums, soft play to toilet training - will have you roaring with laughter and taking great comfort in the fact that it's definitely not just you....

Story
Kate Lawler has never been maternal. And yet here she is: mother to Noa, after years of going back and forth about having children at all. This is the story of her journey from parentally undecided to early motherhood, via raging hormones, sleepless nights, emergency hospital trips, mum guilt, unspoken regrets and post-natal depression. This book is not a parenting manual. It won't tell you what to pack in your hospital bag, or how to get your baby to sleep. It may not help you with feeding or dealing with tantrums. But it will show you that you're not alone.

Motherhood is full of little highs: the smell of a newborn baby's head, the feeling of a small hand holding yours, the infectious sound of laughter, first words, first steps, the first day at school, endless tiny but significant hints of the person your child is to become. But motherhood is not without its lows either: tears and tantrums (your child's and your own), fears, self-doubt, sleepless nights, and that's not to mention the mum fails.

A.I VOICE
- By Jemma Riley on 25-06-21
Summary
Baby-proof the house; panic-proof the mum.
Do you overthink what you said to the mum in the supermarket queue? Is your internal dialogue more critical than kind? Perhaps you wake to check your baby is breathing, or the sight of a rash sends you down an internet search rabbit hole. Whatever your level of anxiety, however much it impacts your life, this audiobook is for you.
Anxiety is making motherhood a less pleasant, more fraught and pressured experience, and we do not have to accept joy-sapping worry and energy-draining overthinking as part of the motherhood job description. In Mind Over Mother, Anna Mathur, psychotherapist and mum of three, explains how to:
- Understand anxiety, why it affects you and what to do about it
- Make your mind a kinder, calmer, happier place to be
- Transform your motherhood experience by addressing your thinking
The most powerful tool Anna has to communicate this isn't the letters after her name, it is the fact that she is open about her own experience of maternal anxiety. By sharing her journey, she gives you the confidence to reframe yours.
Mind Over Mother is full of light bulb moments of realisation. It will have you learning, laughing and loving yourself through the journey of motherhood. You will learn to address the most important conversation you'll ever have - the one inside your head, because investing in your mental health is the best gift you can offer yourself and your baby.
Critic reviews
"With conversations on Maternal Mental Health on the rise, and more women speaking up about the way they feel, Anna Mathur's insight as a psychotherapist AND mother make her someone you feel you can trust. She offers little nuggets of gold while reminding us to point some of our kindness and love inwards." (Giovanna Fletcher, best-selling author of Happy Mum, Happy Baby)
"Anna is breath of fresh air - relatable, funny and wise." (Sarah Turner, best-selling author of The Unmumsy Mum)

This book and the insight Anna shares on her Instagram and podcasts has truly helped me become a calmer, happier, more content and confident mother.
I wish all women were given it as there is no doubt it is full of help, support and wisdom that everyone would benefit from.
Anna including her own stories and experiences makes it really relatable and is reassuring.
The audiobook is excellent quality and although I have it in hardback too I personally find it easier to take in information through audio.

The book which spoke to me , and gave me closure after 10 years!
I so wish I had this book when I was a young first time mum, the content of this book makes you feel so human and not alone when you navigate the early years of parenting! Even after parenting for 10 years successfully, I have experienced all the mum guilt , over thinking and intrusive thoughts associated with the part of doing the best job ever over these years. Anna’s beautiful words make you feel so normal and not alone in this journey. A definitely must read (listen in my case on audible) and feel so much more empowered in your life! I feel this book will help everyone, not only mums alone !

The best book I've read/listened to on anxiety
I wish this book had been written when my kids were babies. It helped me make sense of why anxiety can ramp up after giving birth. Even though it's aimed at new mums I found it just as relevant now that my kids are teens. I'm going to buy the print version so that I can use the journal and highlight all the most useful stuff, which will probably be most of the book! I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
