About this listen

Chester, as it turns out, is actually a monster god.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any time to throw festivals in his honor—the whole world has gone mad and is overflowing with corrupted monsters. His fellow Calamities, enraged that he’d forgotten them, have fused their worlds together in a fit of petty rage.

Now, everyone's stuck in a bizarre and dangerous hellscape with corruption overflowing from every dungeon. The strength I’ve gathered isn’t enough. We must rebuild what they have destroyed and raise an army of our own if we ever want to have a chance of fighting back and establish order to this world. And maybe, between the wild transformations and corrupted monster buffets, Chester and I can figure out the truth behind his mysterious past.

Overall it was a decent continuation of the story but I don't think it landed as well as the previous books. Narration was stellar as usual. Not sure where the story will be going for the next part.

really enjoying this series and can't wait for book five to come out hopefully within the next year because it seems like it's been that long between each book

I like this series and the narration team do an incredible job but this book was more about a way to power up certain characters quickly than having a quest, goal or dungeon run. Things seem far too easy.

On a personal note mimic being sick is not entertaining or funny the whole idea was a distraction. Chester being fun and stupid I get but using being ill as a plot device seems lazy and any humour short lived.

They say an excellent narration can boost a weak story and that was the case here in my opinion.

There are some interesting battles, cool abilities and some good insight into the system. I hope the next book has a stronger story.
