Summary
Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain are back in their most gripping story yet, as book 11, Midnight, picks up where Resurrection left off - and runs.
For years, Valkyrie Cain has struggled to keep her loved ones safe from harm, plunging into battle - time and time again - by Skulduggery Pleasant’s side, and always emerging triumphant.
But now the very thing that Valkyrie fights for is in danger, as a ruthless killer snatches her little sister in order to lure Valkyrie into a final confrontation. With Skulduggery racing to catch up and young sorcerer Omen scrambling along behind, Valkyrie only has twelve hours to find Alice before it’s too late. The clock is ticking....

the narrator just isn't right
I loved this book. They actually get better, with characters developing, changing, growing. It's a rare thing in long series like these. My gripe is that the narrator just isn't right. He has a pleasant enough voice, and does reasonably well distinguishing between female and male voices, but he is truly poor at portraying accents. His American one is painful to listen to, and the Scottish one is pretty damn appalling. I had to skip entire sections, so it's lucky I had the physical book to fall back on. I was gutted to see that he is going to be used for the next installment. But hey, the book is such a goddamn glorious piece of art that I'll suffer through the crappy accents. And buy the book. Maybe that was their plan all along?

I dont want it to end!
My first pick when starting an audible account. Been a fan of the series but was skeptical of an audio version at first, but this has truly been a pleasure to listen to and has made the daily commute less of a chore. An engaging narrator and epic story as usual. A must have for fans of the series. Fingers crossed for further installments!

Disappointing
So pedestrian that I gave up half way through. A pervasive feeling of melancholy. Too many long conversations that didn’t seem to go anywhere. I love SP but just couldn’t “get into” this book. Kevin Hely goes a decent narration but I still prefer the early narrators. My least favourite book of the series.

Another great story, marred by narrator
Same general reaction to this one as I had to the previous book. Nothing at all wrong with the story; it's the usual triumph. However, this narrator is easily the worst of all of those employed throughout the series. Don't let that put you off, but it's just a shame they got someone who is this terrible at using accents from other countries. His Scottish and American accents are awful.

Series narrator?!
How hard is it to maintain consistency with series narrator? This is the fourth narrator in 11 books. Kevin Hely is great for the Irish voices but terrible for everyone else. I suppose we should be grateful they didn't persevere with Brian Bowles. Otherwise, great and a welcome redress of the humour:dark ratio.
