Summary

Goblins and ghouls and magic, oh my! Hang tight to your britches, this laugh-out-loud adventure is about to light you up!

Ousted from the Hollows Group, the shadow world has officially taken notice of me.

With loan sharks sniffing around and knocking on my door, I need to figure out how my ex-husband pushed all his debt onto me, because it stinks of black magic and back-alley dealings.

Until I can get some answers there, I distract myself with a new job - working for a goblin. The job is as simple as hiding some paperwork for him. Only...someone else wants what he gave me. And they are playing dangerously dirty to get what they want.

Throw in a lovesick bigfoot, a siren going through menopause, a demon next door, and two hot guys vying for my attention, and you’ve got my life in a nutshell.

Well, that is if you don’t count on Robert showing up and saving my bacon again. Which he has to, because this time...this time I’ve really put my foot in it.

If you love Patricia Briggs, Kelley Armstrong, KF Breene, Shayne Silvers, Dannika Dark, Jana DeLeon, Kevin Hearne, or Ilona Andrews, you won't want to miss any of Mayer's books!

The best one in the series!

I could not wait to listen to Mid life Demon hunter to discover what adventure awaits for our heroine and I think this is the best in the series so far! The character development is good and my firm favourite leading man is Robert. what a mysterious character and I can't wait to find out more about him.

The narrator is brilliant and the same as the other books in this series so it's great to have the consistency. The story telling made me laugh out loud, cringe, shout and flustered so I would highly recommend this book and this series. cliff hanger ending though? really?! Hurry up with the next book!

Book three and now I can’t wait for book four

I’ve said it twice before and I’m saying it again .... the combination of Shannon Mayer’s writing and Lauren Fortgang’s narration, make for a winning combination.
Shannon Mayer is an excellent author. I’ve bought many of her kindle books, and quite a few of the same books in the audible version. I’ve never come across a bad book written by this author.
The Forty Proof Series is getting better and better with each book. This is the third book in the series (Midlife Demon Hunter) and I’m now really looking forward to listening to book four.
Even though I buy the kindle version of each book, I much prefer listening to Lauren Fortgang’s story telling than my own reading of the book, she makes for a very enjoyable listen, the accents of the characters, the voices, just everything about her narration makes the story more enjoyable for me and I miss that when i read the book myself.
I was offered a free audible book of the third book in the Forty Proof Series for my honest review, everything I have said is my honest opinion on the book, the author and the narrator.

Feels a little slight

Still enjoying this series, but this book felt a little light weight and ends on a cliff hanger. The story isn’t quite as substantial as previous books

Where is book 4?

The story is still going strong. Not as good as some of the Dresden files, but what is? Now please help me find book 4 :)

So good!

Can't believe how quickly I finished this one. I said I would be a good girl and make it last. But nope, its just not possible with a Shannon book. Be ready for an emotional rollercoaster. Bree is getting even deeper into the wprkings of the shadow world and I am here for it! Highly recommend.

Not as Good as First Two Books

Guess I'm the only one not as happy with this book as first two books. First few chapters all about hormones and jumping Crash's bones or Eric's bones. Hormones out of control, cute in first two books, but come on, lets give it a break now.

Still sick of "himself" too

Won't continue this series. Just too cutesy for me. Disappointed

Narrator is good

I really do love this story but..........

I have problems with this book, no not the story or the narrator, just the fact that the author keeps writing about the woman being an older than normal woman. I have no trouble with being over 70 so why is our main character have to keep on and on about her age?
The second thing is the DUCK word, I mean it shows a lack of a dictionary having to change the F bomb into duck, ducking and any other connotation of duck you can think of, after all we are all aware of the word so why keep alluding to it as DUCK.
The last thing on my omg list is the cloud player that just stopped every time the buffering was needed, it completely ruined what is mostly a really a great story. I think that someone should have a look at the cloud player, after all I have used Audible for years now, but I do not know how much longer I can get up and down to start a book up again and again. What happened to the library that you used to to get actually on your computer?

This is sooo good

Unfortunately I spent two nights without sleep again. Which just shows that this series has swallowed me whole and I am very anxious to see and hear what is going to happen next to Bree and her gang.
Just as the previous books, part three has captured my attention from the Get go and I could not put it down for the life of me. Bree is funny and brave, yet with the right mix of self doubt and snark to make her and her world so entertaining. Shannon has definitely delivered, again! Now gimme the next one, pretty please!

Yes! Can’t wait for next one

I love this fun series. The characters are fantastic, quips and one liners make you laugh out loud. Good narration but lost opportunity not being able to do the Irish accent of Crash.

Entertaining

Great addition to the series. Once again, Breena and gang are in for the fight for their lives. Plenty of twists and turns around every bend to keep you entertained and interested. Plenty of new characters are introduced and a new “side” of Robert is revealed, which left me wishing he could remain and become the romantic interest instead of the other two douche canoes. I have the audiobook and ebook and switched back and forth between the two. The narrator did a fantastic job with providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene.

Loved it!!

I loved this audiobook. It is FUN to get lost in Breena’s world. The descriptions make me feel like I’m in Savannah, and feeling the heat. The narrator is a perfect fit for the protagonist and she is easy to follow and she uses different tones for the multiple characters. You don’t have to be in your 40s to enjoy this story. It is fast paced, funny, action, and has a world of supernaturals. If you enjoy paranormal audiobooks I recommend that you pick this audiobook. Lauren Fortgang does a fabulous job bringing the story to life. The book has a nice hook at the end that leaves you wanting to know what happens next! I received a free copy of this audiobook, and I’m reviewing it voluntarily.

Fantastic characters/great story line!

This is the 3rd installment of Shannon Mayer's Forty Proof series, featuring the heroine Breena O'Rylee. She is a 40-something year old woman "picking up the pieces" after a contentious divorce and coming to terms with her raging hormones, grandmother's death, aging body and her rediscovered powers. In book three, she continues her journey of self discovery, strengthens her skills as a magical bounty hunter, and attempts to reconcile her feelings for multiple love interests! The cliff hanger ending will not disappoint! This series is heating up with fun, memorable characters. So far, it is my favorite book in the series. The narrator successfully imbues Breena's sassy, sarcastic attitude and brings the supporting characters to life. I highly recommend it!

Talk about leaving me on the edge of my seat!!!

This installment of the 40 proof series has been amazing. However, we need some resolution to the relationship with Crash it is too hot for words! Enough of the back-and-forth trying to protect each other saving each other and getting to the brink, then getting interrupted ....enough please I hope the next installment is out soon, great series thank you!
