©2023 Hans Gustav Renman (P)2023 Hans Gustav Renmani finished the book, and gained a number of aha moments, being able to reflect on my past experiences and see them in a new insightful way.
The book paints the overall picture of what ADHD is and isn't, explains the chemical and neurological functions in our brains and how adhd symptoms stem from them.
Most of the book focuses on the experience of ADHD, and ways in which someone with the condition can implement strategies for things like planning, regulating emotions, as well as practical comparison between a healthy and unhelthy way of dealing with certain situations, and their underlying foundations.
It's worth pointing out that the book is not a research paper. Although it gives a well rounded overview of brain functions, and societal norms, beliefs etc, it does not read like a academic review. This is a good thing.
It does not rely and mention statistical data like some other books do, or require that you are familiar with how the brain works, to make sense of all of this.
The advice is super helpful and useful. It tackles the topics of self esteem, initiative, planning, goal setting etc. Gives you tools, but most importantly, the author explains how you can adapt these tools to your life, he does not tell you do A instead of B. Instead, they explain the difference between doing A and B, the implication, the underlying belief, and why A is a healthier approach, and how you can adapt it to your own life..
It feels genuine and like getting advice from someone who genuine understands ADHD, rather than saying X many people found 20% improvement by doing A 3 times a week in a research srudy.. (like some other books on this category seem to do.)
Direct, Informative and Practical, felt understood, gained insight and practical steps to address my day to day struggles.
