Summary

AIDAN is the AI you'll love to hate.

The advanced AI system was supposed to protect a fleet of survivors who'd escaped the deadly attack on Kerenza IV. AIDAN was supposed to be infallible. But in the chaotic weeks and months that followed, it became clear that something was terribly, terribly wrong with AIDAN....

One can never have enough of AIDAN

This audio was fan-bloody-tastic. The cast, the sound effects, everything was incredible. I've been listening to audio books for a while but this is above and beyond!!

I really enjoyed the storyline. I always wondered how AIDAN got to be the way he was when Illuminae started. I will definitely reread this series (a lot) and I'll definitely be listening to the full series on audio.

Wow

Wow! This brings a whole new, frightful yet amazing perspective as to how everything that happened in the Trilogy, happened! As I came to the epic conclusion of this beautifully horrifying novella, I wished I had been able to read it first before going into the main stories. It gives a whole knew perspective on the AI and its 'mental' state when it's programming was corrupted.

Fantastic!

I have been robbed of words. I pre-ordered this and have no regrets. It’s not stand alone, but the full cast audio of the series made a fantastic experience and this was a novella worthy of the love I have for the rest of the series.

J&A Did It Again!

It's only 80-something pages and/or a 1.5 hour audiobook, and these authors really managed to get me overly invested in fictional characters YET AGAIN. Aidan is the worst, like really. The audacity this AI has really burns me up. Just so good. Jay and Amie need to continue writing novellas (or please, God, more full length books) in this series, because I will eat up any extra content they want to give.

I love the audio, especially for this series. The full cast performances, as well as sound effects, really bring this series to life.

Now we know why

Brilliant. We know now why Aidan was “compromised” even before the accident. It’s an interesting twist to a complex storyline.

Excellent

The origin story for how AIDAN becomes aware that it is an “I” and for the exact circumstances that lead to what happened to it at Kerenza/what it justified doing thereafter was AMAZING. I loved this novella and getting to return to this world. There are thousands of unknown stories in this universe, and in the many thousands of individuals onboard Alexander, Copernicus, and Hypatia. I would love to see more of them in the future. In addition, it was also great to see some familiar faces and the moments where lives intersect. This series is one of my favorites, and I loved the chance to go back to it.

I loved this book!

I really loved this book! I didn't laugh or cry at anything, but if I reread it, I imagine I'd do both. So I need to buy a print edition of this book and the rest of the Illuminae Files Trilogy!

Because did AIDEN really kill Ethan and the other people who were with him to save himself/the rest of the crew? I listened, but I must have missed it if it was proved without a doubt that he did. And then Olivia was killed! I almost cried when that happened, but the book soon ended and I was fine.

So I just really love this book and series!

This explains so much!

If you need more illuminae files then get this. Even though it is short it is totally worth it. Explains why AIDEN is the way he is. AIDEN could make reading the dictionary sound sinister, love it!

One caveat is the background noise in some chapters is annoying and a few times almost painful. Hissing and static and high pitched noises.

why?!

I forgot how much this writing duo hurts me. I may have to get the rest of the Illuminae Files on audible now because this was beautifully done. AIDEN is such a complex character. I love/hate him/it. Just wow.

All-knowing. All-important. All-absolutely-amazing!

Holy s&@$! What an incredible addition to this already sensational series! I have a renewed abundance of respect for the incomparible partnership that is Kaufman and Kristoff. I absolutely adore prequels and the insight they can provide. And when it’s unexpected, it’s even more of a delight. Here’s where we learn why AIDAN is how it is, and yet the reader can still decide whom to believe. Just like the quote above, AI and the morality of it’s ever expanding role in our lives will continue to play on my mind.
