While her husband, Sherlock Holmes, is off playing detective in London, Irene Adler finds herself having to turn investigator when her friend Renata becomes the prime suspect in the attempted murder of her husband, Luigi Amato. How can she refute the testimony of a credible eyewitness, even though her heart tells her that Renata is innocent? What she needs is tangible evidence, and she's willing to do what she must to obtain it.

When Sherlock finally arrives on the scene, Irene seeks his counsel, and he agrees to assist with her investigation. However, their relationship is called into question by Irene's dear friend Sophia, who is not overly fond of Irene's husband nor approving of the way in which they conduct their marriage. Will Irene be able to prove her friend Renata's innocence, or is ther a more tangled web of deceit at play? And will Sophia's misgivings regarding her marriage bear unfortunate fruit?

The Deepest secrets are often to be found out in the open, if you only know where to look.

I’ve read a lot in this genre, so I wasn’t expecting much, but this surprised me. The pacing was decent and I liked how the tension kept building. I found myself getting invested in what would happen next, especially with all the doubt around what really went on. Not everything hit perfectly, but it was still a really enjoyable read.

Kept me interested the whole time

I listened to this over a weekend and it honestly made my day more interesting. The narration made the story feel alive, especially during the tense moments. I liked that it wasn’t just about solving the case, the personal drama added something extra. I did guess one part early, but it didn’t ruin it for me. Overall, I’m glad I chose to continue the series.

I went into this not expecting much, but Irene completely surprised me. Watching her push through doubt to help Renata felt real, I actually got a bit stressed for her at some point. When Sherlock finally showed up, their dynamic was interesting, not always smooth. Sophia added some tension too, which I didn’t expect. The narrator made each character feel distinct. I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would.

Irene really held her own here

What I liked most was how unsure I felt the whole time about what really happened. Every time I thought I figured it out, something changed. I also liked how personal it felt, not just solving a case but dealing with people and trust. Some parts could’ve been tighter, but I still enjoyed the ride. It kept my attention till the end.

Had me second guessing everything

I listened to the audiobook of this title and thoroughly enjoyed the third instalment of this series. The story is quite short but there are plenty of twists that keep Irene and Sherlock on their toes.

An enjoyable listen
